This position is responsible for operating machinery to ensure the continuous flow of product thru the production process and insuring proper ingredients/supplies are being used on the line. Responsible for monitoring and adjusting machine settings as needed and notifying supervisor if machines should require maintenance while maintaining a safe work environment and adhering to Tyson policies and procedures.

The Automated and Mechanical Machine Palletizer:

  • sets up, operates, and tends a variety of automated and mechanical packaging equipment machines designed to tape, stack, palletize, and/or wrap boxes on one or more packaging lines in preparation for shipment and/or storage.
  • facilitates and monitors machine setups, changeovers, procedural adjustments, shutdown, and cleanup to ensure proper processing and packaging of products within Tyson specifications.
  • completes daily production forms, calculates case counts, and enters data into the production inventory system.
  • operates forklift and/or (electric) pallet jack to sort and transfer pallets and supplies.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Successful startup of automated palletizer: ensures machine photo eyes and line conveyors are clean and clear of jams, starts​ electrical and air supply, selects work orders, etc.
  • Ensures palletizing area is stocked with needed supplies, proper sized pallets; replenishes as necessary; ensures power jack is charged and driver are available, as necessary.
  • Communicates with previous shift or reviews logs to determine problems with line including tappers, case packers, and palletizers.
  • Initializes workorders using a touch screen interface.
  • Monitors the loading or loads boxes onto infeed conveyor; Adjusts the palletizer for the proper size box; Ensures that the case sealer is properly sealing boxes according to boxes size; Makes adjustments so sealed boxes load onto conveyor and palletizer properly.
  • Observes and monitors the stacking operation of the automated palletizer and various packaging machines to detect work-in-progress misalignments or malfunctions; Notifies Line Lead or Supervisor as necessary to correct uncommon packout line or automated palletizer problems. Escalates designated problems to maintenance. Monitors and reports wear and tear on equipment.
  • Monitors controls, palletizer’s interface or other indicators to ensure the proper functioning of the palletizer and other assigned machines in the process.
  • Examines completed work orders to detect defects and verifies conformance to work orders.
  • Resolves common palletizer breakdowns and malfunctions including those resulting from improperly sealed boxes, boxes crushed by palletizer, improperly placed pallets, and interruptions with the safety curtain. Clears jams or related mishaps on line feed and in the robot cage.
  • Monitors and adjusts machines, line conveyors and automated palletizer at speeds and settings that maintain proper production output.
  • Performs visual check on boxes to assure proper printing, labels, or barcodes appear on boxes facing outward.
  • Performs all duties in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Facilitates palletizer changeovers, procedural adjustments, shutdown, and cleanup.
  • Monitors related functions to ensure proper processing and packaging of product within Tyson specifications.
  • Completes daily production forms, calculates case counts and enters data into the production inventory system.
  • Occasionally loads pallets and lifts boxes when palletizer is down.
  • May create, modify, copy or clear new pallet pattern or adjust case or pallet height, number of layers, pick/drop speeds or delays during production. May set up new workorder configuration.
  • May adjust case packer and change tape rolls.
  • May label pallet with a barcode and utilize a handheld computer/scanner to enter pallet case counts and time data into a production inventory system.
  • May operate forklift, electric pallet jack, case packer, and pallet wrapper.
  • Perform any other work as assigned by supervisor.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Math Skills: Ability to perform basic math functions such as adding, subtracting, or simple multiplication mentally, on paper or with calculator.
  • Technology Skills: Must be able to operate machines using a touch screen to interpret information in sequential order, input data, and reset calculations. Ability to be trained to or use a computer display controls, handheld computers and scanners.
  • Reading Skills: Ability to read and comprehend written and oral instructions – such
    as work orders, computer displays, safety materials, operating and maintenance instructions, procedural manuals, and brief correspondence.
  • Language Skills: Ability to speak and understand communication with Team Leads and co-workers in a manner that is sufficient for safe and effective operations, including in English in situations where such individuals can only speak and understand English.
  • Written Skills: Ability to produce written information, short logs, and memos to communicate information clearly verbally or in writing or completing reporting forms or checklists.
  • Chain-of-Responsibility: Ability to understand systems and chain of command escalation. Mechanical Skills: Must exhibit general mechanical aptitude to operate equipment.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to monitor production situations within packout system (case packer, case sealer, palletizer, jacks, etc.), solve practical problems, and deal with a variety of variables in different situations to maintain product output.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Company issued pallet jack and lift truck
    driver certification.
  • Physical: Ability to flex/grip with wrists/hands.
  • Walk, bend, squat, stand and repetitive lifting of up to 40 lbs. boxes from floor level up to a height of 7 ft., every 30 to 60 seconds while maintaining proper records.
  • Wears all required personal protective equipment including, gowns, hearing protection, eye protection, hardhats, as required.  

 

**This position is slated for team members who are currently working at this facility or complex. Priority consideration will be provided to these applicants first. If local Team Members are not selected, External applicants will then be reviewed for consideration.

Openings for this position will be filled by the most qualified, eligible bidder per Tyson’s Job Bidding Policy. 

  • Successful candidates may not be allowed to apply for another position for six (6) months unless the position is a promotion
  • If a job posting fails to produce any qualified candidates, the company may assign the position to a qualified probationary Team Member or recruit from the outside.
  • Must have completed 90-day probationary period to apply. If a non-probationary period team member is not selected, probationary team members will be considered.
  • Must have a satisfactory attendance record of 3 points or less.
  • Must not have received a written warning/suspension in the last 6 month
