Career Opportunity: Director of Programs and Operations with MY Project USA in Columbus, Ohio

Are you a business-minded nonprofit leader who enjoys growing revenue-generating operations, building teams, strengthening systems, and creating accountability across multiple programs? Are you comfortable moving between strategic oversight and hands-on problem-solving? If you are energized by mission-driven work and want your leadership to directly impact youth, families, and communities throughout Central Ohio, we would like to hear from you.

MY Project USA is seeking a Director of Programs & Operations to strengthen and grow the organization’s social enterprises while providing leadership and oversight across multiple programs, departments, and community initiatives. As the Director of Programs & Operations, you will work closely with the CEO to improve business operations, develop financially sustainable revenue-generating models, strengthen systems, lead staff and volunteers, support grant and financial accountability, and drive measurable organizational impact. For the first two to three months, you will focus heavily on evaluating and strengthening MY Project USA’s existing social enterprises. As these operations become more stable, you will oversee their performance while assuming broader responsibility across the organization’s programs and operations.

As the Director of Programs & Operations, you will:

  • Evaluate existing social enterprises and develop practical business plans to improve revenue, customer growth, operating efficiency, and financial sustainability.
  • Strengthen MY Community Cafe operations, including sales, marketing, staffing, expenses, customer development, and the path toward profitability.
  • Expand the Climate Justice Lab Thrift Store through stronger in-person and online sales, inventory management, pricing, merchandising, and customer development.
  • Grow container sales through improved inventory preparation, pricing, buyer relationships, shipping logistics, and consistent sales activity.
  • Develop an event rental business using the organization’s stages, equipment, and other rentable inventory, including pricing, marketing, customer acquisition, agreements, and scheduling.
  • Identify additional revenue opportunities using MY Project USA’s facilities, donated inventory, equipment, and existing resources.
  • Hire, supervise, coach, and hold staff, managers, volunteer leaders, interns, and youth leaders accountable for successful execution.
  • Provide leadership and oversight across multiple organizational programs, departments, social enterprises, and community initiatives.
  • Partner closely with the CEO to support day-to-day operations, organizational priorities, and long-term program and business success.
  • Monitor business and program performance, budgets, operating expenses, grant requirements, reporting deadlines, and key deliverables.
  • Develop and improve systems for operations, reporting, accountability, financial controls, volunteer management, data collection, and program evaluation.
  • Coordinate with department and program leaders to identify operational challenges, implement solutions, and strengthen outcomes.
  • Support grant administration, compliance, documentation, reporting requirements, and financial accountability across programs.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, schools, funders, community partners, healthcare organizations, volunteers, and other stakeholders.
  • Represent MY Project USA at meetings, events, trainings, and community partnership activities.

 Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, nonprofit management, public administration, social services, education, or a related field preferred. Equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Five or more years of experience in business development, operations, social enterprise, nonprofit program management, or organizational leadership.
  • Demonstrated experience growing revenue, increasing sales or customers, developing new business opportunities, or improving operational and financial performance.
  • Experience leading multiple programs, businesses, teams, or departments, including hiring, supervising, developing, and holding staff or volunteers accountable.
  • Experience managing budgets, operating expenses, financial performance, grants, compliance, reporting, and performance metrics.
  • Strong business judgment, leadership, project management, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to take initiative, make independent decisions, establish systems, and manage competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated business and operational leadership experience. Experience in restaurants, cafés, retail/resale, logistics, distribution, event rentals, or other revenue-generating operations is especially relevant. Traditional nonprofit or youth development experience is valued but is not sufficient on its own.
