Systems Engineer

This position is for an experienced systems engineer with V&V planning and/or testing execution experience. We are seeking a person passionate about space exploration, who is self-motivated and capable of working with a team to develop and execute an integrated test planning process as a Systems Engineer supporting the SR-1 Freedom Mission Validation, Testing, and Operations group. SR-1F is a pioneer project with a condensed timeline to deliver payloads to Mars orbit while demonstrating a nuclear power system which will benefit both lunar and deep space exploration. SR-1F is being developed by a small team divided among multiple NASA centers and industry partners.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and review SR-1F Validation testing products, including integrated validation scenarios, detailed objectives, test plans, and closure notices using Concept of Operations documentation and coordination with SR-1F stakeholders.
• Proactively coordinate with system and subsystem experts across a variety of technical disciplines such as: Guidance, navigation, and Control (GN&C), Power, Thermal, Flight Software, Avionics and Communications, Mission Systems (Control Centers), Flight Operations, etc.
• Identify problem areas within testing, verification, and validation; propose and execute creative solutions to meet a compressed project schedule.
• Assist with resource management of hardware (emulators, Engineering Development Units (EDUs), Ground Support Equipment (GSE), etc.) used for integrated testing.
• Review Interface Control Documents (ICDs), Subsystem Specifications, Hazard Reports and other Systems Engineering and Integration (SE&I) data to support test planning.
• Attend SR-1F Validation, Testing, and Operations meetings; build and review integrated validation and testing documentation as directed
• Perform Risk Assessments for validation objectives and test scenarios to be used for test planning prioritization

Required Qualifications:  
 

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
• 7+ years’ experience in systems engineering or a related technical field.
• Broad understanding across Systems Engineering Disciplines. Specifically, Systems. Engineering and Integration, ConOps Development, Risk Assessment, Test. Operations, Assembly and Integration, and Test and Verification.
• Software and/or hardware testing experience. 
• Ability to learn tools and processes quickly.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to proactively build relationships and engage stakeholders across teams and technical disciplines to identify, coordinate, and resolve integrated problems.

Desired Qualifications:
 

• Experience with large system Verification and Validation planning and execution for aerospace systems.
• Knowledge of test procedure development.
• Experience with the NASA Systems Development Lifecycle, Life Cycle Reviews, and associated products.

Citizenship or lawful permanent resident required due to federal position.
