Senior / Principal Geotechnical Engineer

We are now seeking an experienced Senior or Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join us in Stockholm. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with a multidisciplinary network of experts across our offices in North America, Europe (including Finland, Spain, UK, Ireland, Portugal), the Middle East and Australia.

 

Within our Swedish business, we work with both private- and public-sector clients. Our projects include landslide risk assessments, tailings/dam safety assessments, planning and implementation of geotechnical, geophysical and environmental geotechnical investigations, contaminated land risk assessments and remediation studies, environmental permitting, and strategic environmental consulting, including ESG and due diligence. Geosyntec is extensively involved in the European mining industry, working across the mining lifecycle from exploration through to closure and remediation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Project Management: Plan, manage and deliver geotechnical projects and technical workstreams, ensuring high-quality, timely and commercially successful outcomes.
• Technical Delivery: Interpret geological and geotechnical data, develop ground models and provide practical design recommendations for foundations, retaining structures, slope stability, settlement and other geotechnical works.
• Reporting & Design: Prepare and review technical reports and design documentation, including MUR, PM/GEO, GIR and GDR reports, tender documentation and detailed designs.
• Geotechnical Analysis: Undertake settlement and stability assessments, foundation design and other geotechnical analyses using appropriate analytical methods and specialist software such as Geosuite and RocScience.
• Ground Modelling & Data Interpretation: Develop ground models, geological and analytical sections, geotechnical parameters and mapping outputs, translating complex site data into clear engineering recommendations.
• Client Management & Business Development: Build strong client relationships, act as a trusted technical advisor, identify new opportunities and prepare commercially focused proposals.
• Technical Leadership: Provide senior technical input and guidance across projects, including field mapping, site supervision, investigation programmes and laboratory testing.
• Mentoring & Development: Lead, mentor and develop junior staff, supporting their technical and professional development.
• Practice Development: Work collaboratively with colleagues to strengthen and grow the geotechnical engineering practice locally and internationally.

Education and Licensure

• Civilingenjör/advanced degree in civil/geotechnical engineering, or a related field of study (required)

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

• At least 8 years of relevant geotechnical engineering experience in the consulting sector, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• A strong understanding of infrastructure and the construction process, from feasibility studies and investigations through to the preparation of detailed design and construction documentation.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, both internally and externally.
• Extensive experience in numerical modelling and/or geotechnical design.
• Experience independently initiating and leading projects.
• The ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, in Swedish and English (required)
