Description
As the Finance Manager: Governance, Risk & Internal Controls, you will serve as the primary assurance business partner to executive leadership, playing a pivotal role in strengthening the organisation’s governance architecture, risk posture, and control environment. Working in close collaboration with the Finance Director, you will have complete autonomy to shape internal financial controls, lead end-to-end assurance reviews, oversee joint-venture governance, and drive regional finance transformation initiatives across international operations.
This role offers an exceptional platform to build high-level visibility across Executive Committees (Exco) and Audit & Risk Committees (ARC), providing critical insights that safeguard multi-million-dollar asset portfolios while enabling sustainable commercial expansion.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead Internal Financial Controls (IFC): Design, review, and maintain dynamic Risk and Control Matrices (RACMs) across core operational and financial processes, facilitating Control Self-Assessment (CSA) workshops and championing continuous control automation.
- Orchestrate Audit & Independent Assurance: Act as the strategic lead and liaison for all internal and external assurance engagements (including Tier-1 audit partners), ensuring root-cause resolution of observations rather than surface-level fixes.
- Drive Executive & Committee Reporting: Formulate and deliver insightful, C-suite dashboards and analytical packs for Exco and Audit & Risk Committees, offering real-time visibility into control effectiveness ratings, remediation actions, and emerging operational risks.
- Oversee Joint Venture & Commercial Governance: Implement and monitor rigorous governance frameworks across corporate JVs and strategic commercial partnerships, ensuring full alignment with group standards, legal commitments, and shareholder mandates.
- Champion Financial Governance & Treasury Controls: Serve as an authorized financial gatekeeper by conducting independent reviews and releases of payment batches, mitigating foreign exchange exposures, and strengthening anti-fraud payment protocols.
- Spearhead Regional Transformation: Partner directly with the Project Management Office and regional finance leads to standardize operating models, operating procedures, and Delegations of Authority across multiple international operating entities.
- Coordinate Strategic Insurance Portfolios: Oversee the annual insurance renewal and asset declaration processes across operational jurisdictions, minimizing under-insurance risk and managing critical claims processes.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Internal Audit, or Risk Management coupled with a recognized professional qualification: CA(SA) or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA).
- 7 to 10 years of demonstrated post-qualification experience within internal audit, internal financial controls, governance, and risk management.
- Minimum of 2 years of proven operational experience gained within a mining, heavy industrial, chemicals, or manufacturing environment.
- Proven track record of drafting executive-level committee papers and presenting complex risk issues to senior leadership and governance bodies.
- Sharp commercial acumen with an instinct for identifying systemic root causes and driving sustainable remediation.
