Description

It's fun to work in a company where people truly BELIEVE in what they're doing!
We're committed to bringing passion and customer focus to the business.

At FCC, this role is about more than maintenance—it’s about service to the community. As part of our Pinellas County Waste-to-Energy team, you’ll help maintain the systems that turn everyday waste into usable energy, reduce landfill dependence, and support a cleaner, more sustainable future for the community we serve.

The Electrical & Instrumentation Technician is responsible for installing, troubleshooting, inspecting, calibrating, and maintaining electrical, instrumentation, and distributed control systems throughout the facility in a safe and professional manner.

This is a full-time, long-term position supporting a 24/7 facility with a dedicated maintenance team and requires a mix of hands-on electrical maintenance, instrument calibration, and control system troubleshooting, with a strong focus on field diagnostics and problem-solving.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive, corrective, and calibration maintenance on electrical and instrumentation systems in accordance with Federal and State regulations, as well as company policies and procedures.
  • Troubleshoot, maintain, and test equipment including:
    • Low- and medium-voltage switchgear
    • Circuit breakers
    • Motor starters
    • Power transformers
  • Maintain and troubleshoot high-voltage switchyard equipment, Motor Control Centers (MCCs), and steam turbine generators. Coordinate and monitor work performed by licensed contractors on high-voltage and generator protection systems.
  • Perform electrical maintenance on waste-to-energy boilers and associated equipment, including pumps, fans, motors, conveyors, and refuse cranes.
  • Maintain electrical systems related to air pollution control equipment.
  • Troubleshoot, inspect, calibrate, and repair Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS) and plant instrumentation, including flow, pressure, temperature, and level devices.
  • Troubleshoot, tune, and maintain Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and historian systems.
  • Diagnose and repair electronic, digital, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical control systems.
  • Utilize calibration equipment and tools to perform assigned maintenance tasks.
  • Collaborate with operations and maintenance teams to resolve equipment issues and complete work orders.
  • Accurately document maintenance activities, work orders, and requisitions.
  • Respond to after-hours calls and participate in scheduled on-call coverage.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout (LOTO), job hazard analyses, and environmental compliance requirements.
  • Communicate effectively using radios, intercom systems, and direct interaction.
  • Identify and proactively address recurring or potential equipment issues with minimal supervision.
  • Operate mobile equipment such as forklifts, manlifts, and skid steers as needed.
  • Work Schedule: Standard Monday – Friday, 0700 AM – 3:30 PM outside of outages; overtime, extended hours, and shift flexibility required during outages and operational demands.
  • On-call responsibilities are shared among the team, typically one week out of every five when fully staffed.
  • Outages are typically scheduled spring and fall, lasting approximately 10 days per unit.
