Description of Work:
This position is located at the I-95 North Welcome Center in Pleasant Hill, NC (Northampton County).
The North Carolina Department of Commerce is the state's lead agency for economic, community and workforce development. The department works with local, regional, national and international organizations to fulfill its mission to improve the economic well-being and quality of life for all North Carolinians.
The Visitor Services Program works in cooperation with strategic partners to strengthen the state's tourism industry by providing customer service and information on travel to and within North Carolina to visitors and potential visitors. It is comprised of four components: North Carolina Welcome Center, Tourism Call Center, Tourism Fulfillment Center and Tourism Warehouse. The Welcome Center program maximizes the opportunities to increase visitor expenditures through responsive sales and marketing initiatives and quality personal customer service at points of entry to the state along interstate highways. Welcome Centers provide multiple travel services, such as providing travel information, planning trips, routing, distributing travel literature, and making reservations for accommodations. The Call and Fulfillment Centers, a collaboration between the Departments of Commerce, Transportation, and Public Safety, are housed at the North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women in Raleigh. Inmate telephone operators provide information to consumers traveling or considering travel to and within North Carolina. In addition, they package and distribute the state's travel publications to potential visitors, gaining skills while providing an important service. This critical function is supported by the Tourism Warehouse, which is responsible for storing and transporting tourism materials to shipping facilities. This position provides customer service by maintaining superior housekeeping and safety standards on the interior and at the immediate exterior of the Welcome Center Building. This includes housekeeping, maintenance and stock work, along with responding to visitor requests.
Welcome Centers are open 7 days a week from 8 am to 5 pm. The work schedule will include weekdays, weekends, and holiday work.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Applicants who possess the following qualifications may receive management preference:
- Demonstrated experience servicing the public in a hospitality like environment or other types of customer service.
- Demonstrated experience with housekeeping duties such as vacuuming, mopping, sweeping, cleaning windows, changing light bulbs, etc.
- Demonstrated experience using physical strength and equipment appropriately to move heavy objects.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Warehouse or other experience that required the ability for prolonged standing, bending, lifting, and pushing while using appropriate equipment.
