Senior Process Engineer

ProProcess is an engineering solutions company offering the full spectrum of engineering services via the EPS contracting model, that culminates in the building of world-class, pre-tested, modular process plants and containerized switchgear.

Purpose of the role:
To provide advanced process engineering expertise in the design, development and implementation of process plant projects, ensuring technical excellence, compliance with standards, and alignment with project requirements.
The Senior Process Engineer is responsible for executing and coordinating complex process engineering activities across project phases, supporting multidisciplinary integration, and providing technical guidance to junior engineers. The role focuses on high-level technical delivery rather than discipline leadership and departmental management.

Key responsibilities:

Technical design and engineering delivery

• Develop process design deliverables including PFDs, P&IDs, mass balances, equipment sizing and specifications, complex engineering calculations and simulations.
• Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards and regulatory requirements.
• Participate in HAZOP, risk assessments and design reviews.
• Provide technical input during procurement, fabrication and construction phases.
• Support commissioning and troubleshooting activities.
• Review vendor documentation and ensure technical compliance.
• Review and approve engineering designs as per the organisations responsibility matrix to ensure quality, compliance, and safety.
•  Maintain engineering design standards and best practices across all projects.

Project support and coordination

• Provide technical support and ensure cross-discipline collaboration to achieve project requirements.
• Ensure that project objectives are met in terms of time, quality and safety
• Provide technical support during design, installation, commissioning, and handover phases.
• Ensure compliance with project specifications and timelines.
• Support the development of project documentation.
• Identify and mitigate technical risks through proactive design reviews and early engagement.

Technical guidance and mentorship

• Provide technical input and support to the process engineering team by fostering a high-performance culture, developing technical capabilities, and ensuring consistent delivery of high-quality designs.
• Review documents and quality to provide training or updates to systems & procedures to ensure quality standards are held and achieved.
• Promote knowledge-sharing and continuous learning through training, workshops, and peer reviews.
• Ensure the team adheres to company values, engineering principles, and professional conduct.
• Provide training to process engineers or other disciplines to ensure alignment between disciplines and quality and safety standards are met.
• Promote engineering best practices and quality standards.

Continuous Improvement and innovation

• Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the process engineering function, aligning with organizational goals and engineering excellence.
• Develop and refine strategies, standards, and processes to improve efficiency, quality, and innovation.
• Identify areas for improvement in engineering tools, methods, and workflows.
• Lead or contribute to the development of engineering standards, guidelines, and templates.
• Implement digital engineering tools
• Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend integration where beneficial.
• Promote a culture of continuous improvement and lean engineering practices.
• Contribute to corporate initiatives as determined by the management team.

Minimum Requirements:

Qualifications and experience

• B Tech / B Eng / BSc Eng or equivalent (essential).
• Honours or Master's in engineering (desirable).
• 8+ years detailed engineering and design of process plant for implementation, including commissioning (essential).
• Relevant experience covering studies, conceptual, basic and detailed design phases.
• 2+ years of technical experience mentoring Junior Engineers (essential).

Knowledge

• Deep understanding of engineering principles and standards.
• Knowledge of design processes, project lifecycle, and engineering best practices.
• Familiarity with industry-specific codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Understanding of procurement, construction, and commissioning practices.
• Proficiency with relevant engineering tools and systems.
