Ready to make an impact? We're looking for an onsite intern to join our team for the 10-week Summer Internship program (May 17 - July 23, 2027) at our headquarters in Wilmington, NC. Applications are due by 11:59 p.m. ET on Monday, September 28th.

How This Role Impacts Live Oak and Its People 

At Live Oak Bank, technology is at the heart of how we serve small businesses and entrepreneurs across the country. As a Software Engineering Intern, you will help build and improve the digital products and platforms that support our customers, employees, and banking operations. 
 
This role provides an opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects alongside experienced engineers, product teams, and business partners. Your work will help us deliver innovative financial solutions, improve customer experiences, and support the continued growth of Live Oak. At the same time, you will gain valuable hands-on experience, mentorship, and exposure to modern software engineering practices in a collaborative and supportive environment.

What You'll Do at Live Oak

• Assist in the design, development, testing, and maintenance of software applications and services.

• Collaborate with engineers, business analysts, designers, and business stakeholders to deliver new features and enhancements.

• Learn and use AI-assisted development tools to support software design, coding, testing, documentation, and problem-solving while developing modern engineering skills.

• Participate in code reviews, team discussions, and agile ceremonies.

• Research emerging technologies and help identify innovative solutions to business and technical challenges.

• Support cloud-based applications and services, with opportunities to work in AWS environments.

• Contribute to technical documentation, knowledge sharing, and project updates.

• Help design and implement integrations with internal systems and external fintech partners.

• Assist with automated testing and quality assurance activities to ensure reliable software delivery.

• Learn and apply secure software development practices in a regulated financial services environment.

• Maintain a high standard of regulatory awareness including BSA, AML, CIP, and OFAC.

• Actively seek feedback, learn from mentors, and continuously develop your technical and professional skills.

Required Experience

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field.

• Experience with at least one modern programming language such as Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, C#, or Go.

• Basic understanding of software development principles, data structures, and object-oriented programming.

• Familiarity with web technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Effective verbal and written communication skills.

• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

• Demonstrated curiosity and willingness to learn new technologies.

Preferred Experience

• Experience building applications through coursework, personal projects, hackathons, or previous internships.

• Exposure to AWS or other cloud platforms.

• Experience with APIs, databases, and Git.

• Knowledge of automated testing or CI/CD practices.

• Interest in fintech, financial services, or banking technology.

The base pay range for this position is $19.77 - $32.12 per hour. Compensation may also include annual bonuses and long-term incentives, subject to various metrics and company policy. A candidate’s salary is determined by several factors including travel, relevant work experience or skills and expertise.
