Description

 As a Welder III – Tank Welder, you will perform advanced tank fit-up and welding operations with a focus on producing structurally sound, watertight assemblies. You will independently interpret tank fabrication prints, fit and position tank components, perform multiple weld types and positions, identify and repair nonconforming welds, and prepare completed units for testing and downstream operations. 

Requirements

· Education: High School Diploma/GED required

· Certifications: D1.1 structural certification and D1.3 11-guage certification.

· Experience: 5+ years experience as a MIG welder and one year of continuous experience in a manufacturing environment required

· Reading Ability: Must be able to read and understand English

Skills:

· Ability to follow verbal and written work instructions and established procedures.

· Advanced proficiency in tank welding, fabrication, fit-up, and repair processes.

· Ability to independently perform required tank-welding operations in the correct sequence and make sound technical decisions within established procedures.

· Advanced ability to locate, read, and interpret tank fabrication prints, dimensions, weld locations, weld types, and weld lengths.

· Ability to independently fit and position tank components using levels, squares, measurements, and established fabrication requirements.

· Proficiency in producing watertight welds, including long fillet, vertical-down, butt, flange, and other required welds and positions.

· Advanced ability to inspect welds and identify nonconforming conditions, including undercut, overlap, base-metal gouging, and overgrinding.

· Ability to troubleshoot weld-quality and fit-up issues and independently perform appropriate repairs and rework.

· Ability to prepare completed tank assemblies for testing and inspection.

· Ability to anticipate downstream production issues and take appropriate action within established procedures.

· Ability to perform work across sub-weld, base-weld, and applicable tank-welding work centers with little to no assistance.

· Ability to perform specialized primary, secondary, finish-cell, or double-stack tank operations as applicable to the assigned work center.

· Ability to identify missing components and follow established processes to obtain required parts.

· Ability to safely operate cranes and forklifts after required training and certification.

· Understanding of welding PPE, shop safety, material-handling practices, and 5S requirements.

· Ability to safely work around forklifts, cranes, and other material-handling equipment.

· Ability to complete assigned work within established production and takt-time requirements.

· Ability to lift and handle parts weighing up to 40 pounds and work with team members to handle larger parts.
