Job Summary

The Shipping & Packaging Technician is responsible for preparing finished tanks, process equipment, and components for safe and timely shipment to customers. This hands-on position performs packaging, carpentry, material handling, and shipment preparation tasks to ensure equipment is protected during transportation and meets customer, quality, and safety requirements. This role works closely with Production, Quality, Engineering, and Project Management to support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), final inspections, shipment readiness, and outbound logistics.

Requirements

Essential Functions

· Prepare finished tanks, vessels, and process equipment for shipment through cleaning, staging, labeling, packaging, and load preparation activities.

· Build custom skids, crates, blocking, bracing, and protective packaging to secure large industrial equipment during transportation.

· Utilize hand tools, power tools, saws, drills, nail guns, and other carpentry equipment to construct shipping supports and protective structures.

· Install shrink wrap, padding, covers, and other protective materials to prevent damage during transit.

· Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) activities and customer inspections to ensure products are ready for shipment.

· Complete final shipment inspections and verify customer punch list items have been addressed prior to release.

· Assist with loading and securing equipment onto trailers, ensuring compliance with transportation and customer requirements.

· Read and interpret shop drawings, shipping instructions, customer specifications, and packaging requirements.

· Coordinate with Production, Quality, Engineering, and Project Management teams to resolve shipment preparation issues.

· Complete shipping documentation, bills of lading, packing lists, and ERP transactions accurately and timely.

· Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, hoists, and other material handling equipment safely and effectively.

· Maintain organized, clean, and safe shipping, staging, and storage areas.

· Assist with inventory movement, material handling, and other shipping and receiving activities as needed.

· Cross-train in additional warehouse, shipping, and supply chain functions to provide operational support.

· Follow all Feldmeier Equipment safety policies, quality standards, company procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.

· Perform other duties as assigned to support efficient facility operations and customer deliveries.

Required Qualifications

· High school diploma or GED.

· Experience in carpentry, construction, woodworking, manufacturing, crating, packaging, or a related hands-on trade.

· Ability to safely operate and use hand tools and power tools.

· Ability to read a tape measure and perform basic shop math calculations.

· Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.

· Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Preferred Qualifications

· Previous experience building custom crates, skids, or packaging for industrial equipment.

· Experience shipping large fabricated assemblies, tanks, or custom-built equipment.

· Experience using Epicor or other ERP systems.

· Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification.

· Experience operating overhead cranes, rigging equipment, or material handling equipment.

Physical Requirements

· Ability to stand and walk for up to 8 hours per day.

· Ability to frequently bend, squat, kneel, twist, stoop, climb, and reach throughout the workday.

· Ability to regularly lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.

· Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and elevated platforms as required.

· Ability to work inside, underneath, and around large vessels and process equipment.

· Ability to safely operate forklifts, cranes, and other material handling equipment.

· Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).

· Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with varying temperatures, noise levels, and production conditions.

· Ability to perform physically demanding work while maintaining attention to detail and safety standards.
