Join our new Radio R&D center in Yokohama

Would you like to be part of the establishment of a new R&D center to build up a new engineering organization and shape the next generation of Ericsson radio products?

The team is part of the System & IVC department in the newly established Radio R&D center in Japan Yokohama. The unit belongs to the global BNEW organization Radio Transport & Engineering (RTE).

The R&D center in Yokohama will develop radio products targeting the Japanese markets as well as the global market.

We are hosted in a modern office facility in Minato Mirai in Yokohama and the new labs are currently built up to latest possible state-of-the-art standard.

You will work in a highly collaborative, international environment together with colleagues in Japan and Ericsson’s global design centers. Our teams develop and maintain competitive, high-quality radio products for current and future mobile networks, including 5G and the evolution toward 6G.

About the opportunity

We are looking for a Manager, Radio System Design to establish, lead, and grow a high-performing team within Radio Systemization. You will combine people leadership with technical and organizational responsibility, helping transform requirements and ideas into robust, verified, and releasable radio products.

This is an opportunity to play a central role in building the Yokohama R&D center, defining effective ways of working, developing local competence, and strengthening collaboration across the global radio organization.

## Join our Team

What you will do

  • Recruit, coach, and develop engineers and technical leaders while building a creative, inclusive, and learning-oriented culture.
  • Lead the development of the Radio Systemization area including OA studies, Technical coordination, Requirement handling and Functional systemization tasks. Since the System & IVC department is under development and constantly growing there is not yet a division between the different areas in Radio System Design.
  • Coordinate activities across hardware, firmware, software, functional systemization, integration, verification, production, and product management teams.
  • Secure technical quality, predictable deliveries, and effective design and release activities.
  • Act as an accountable design owner or technical leader for the assigned domain, taking ownership of decisions, dependencies, risks, and results.
  • Establish and improve development flows, design verification, test strategies, documentation, and traceability.
  • Drive continuous improvement, reuse of established solutions, knowledge sharing, and efficient ways of working.
  • Plan competence and resource build up.
  • Represent the Yokohama team in global governance, project, supplier, and stakeholder forums when applicable.
  • Support a strong customer and business focus while ensuring compliance with relevant Ericsson processes, standards, and product requirements.

What you will bring

  • A university degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Computer Science, Engineering Physics, or related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Proven experience from radio product development, systems engineering, hardware/software design, integration, or a related R&D area.
  • Experience leading technical teams, cross-functional activities, or complex development work. Previous line-management experience is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of radio products and the ability to understand, support, and challenge technical issues across organizational boundaries.
  • Experience with product development processes, design quality, verification, release, and lifecycle management.
  • A structured, analytical, and results-oriented approach, combined with sound judgment when information is incomplete.
  • Strong coaching, communication, collaboration, and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Excellent written and spoken English. Japanese language skills and experience working in international, distributed organizations are an advantage.
  • A genuine interest in radio technology, employee development, innovation, and continuous improvement.
