Job Summary

Responsible for driving growth in the fisheries business through new client acquisition, effective processing and assessment of credit applications from branches, development of business growth proposals, and the booking of quality loans in line with the Bank’s credit standards.

Job Description​

Main Responsibilities


Customer Acquisition & Credit Assessment

  • Identify, acquire, and onboard fisheries farmers, cooperatives, and agribusiness enterprises as new clients.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, and industry partners while providing advisory support on appropriate financing solutions.
  • Maintain an up-to-date understanding of the fisheries sector in Tanzania, including client needs, market trends, sector risks, and financing requirements across the fisheries value chain.
  • Assess loan applications submitted by fisheries farmers, cooperatives, and agribusiness enterprises.
  • Evaluate business viability, repayment capacity, cash flow strength, collateral adequacy, and fisheries sector-specific risks.

 

 Loan Structuring & Disbursement

 

  • Structure financing solutions tailored to fisheries production cycles, business models, and client cash flow patterns.
  • Recommend suitable financial products, including working capital loans, asset finance, and insurance-backed credit solutions.
  • Ensure approved facilities are disbursed accurately and within agreed timelines, in line with approved terms and internal procedures

 

 Monitoring & Portfolio Management

 

  •  Conduct regular monitoring of financed farms, projects, and enterprises to assess business performance and repayment capacity.
  • Identify early warning indicators of financial distress, operational challenges, or deteriorating credit quality, and recommend appropriate remedial actions.
  • Maintain a healthy and high-quality loan portfolio by ensuring timely repayments, effective follow-up, and minimal arrears

 

Risk Management & Compliance

  • Ensure full adherence to credit policies, internal procedures, regulatory requirements, and applicable fisheries sector standards.
  •  Promote fisheries insurance, risk-sharing mechanisms, and other mitigation tools to safeguard both clients and the Bank.
  • Ensure all lending activities are conducted in line with the Bank’s risk appetite, credit standards, and compliance requirements

 

 Capacity Building & Advisory

  •  Educate fisheries clients on financial literacy, record keeping, responsible borrowing, and sound business management practices.
  • Provide advisory support to clients on best practices in fisheries management and sustainable business operations.
  • Facilitate linkages between clients and relevant technical service providers, input suppliers, markets, and other value chain actors.

 

 Reporting & Documentation

  • Prepare and submit periodic reports on the performance of the fisheries loan portfolio.
  • Document lessons learned, emerging opportunities, sector risks, and challenges affecting fisheries business development.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date client, credit, and portfolio documentation in accordance with internal standards

Reporting & Meeting attendance 

  • Attend Credit Risk Committee meetings, business review meetings, loan delinquency and collections meetings, and any other meetings as directed by management.
  • Prepare and submit periodic reports and any other reports required by management within agreed timelines.
  • Provide updates on portfolio performance, business development activities, credit quality, and key sector developments

 

Education and Experience Required

Education

  •  Bachelor’s degree in Aquaculture, Animal Science, Agribusiness, or any other related field.
  • Sound knowledge of fisheries business value chains, and related financing requirements

Experience

  • 2 years and above work experience in agribusiness financing with exposure to Fisheries clients.
  •  Field experience in conducting farm visits, fisheries project evaluations, client interviews, and capacity assessments.

Additional Skills/Competencies

  • Strong analytical, financial assessment, and credit appraisal skills..
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, stakeholder engagement, and relationship management skills.
  • Good understanding of fisheries sector dynamics, risks, and opportunities.
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively to rural and field locations

Qualifications
