Job Description:

The Polytechnic School (TPS) is seeking a Research Advancement Administrator (Pre-Award) to join our Research Advancement Team. We are looking for an individual interested in making a difference in the world by directly supporting researchers who are making globally impactful advances in research, and who is seeking a career with various opportunities for growth.

The Research Advancement Administrator position will have the responsibility of collaborating with Fulton School of Engineering (FSE) faculty at TPS on the development, preparation, and submission of sponsored project proposals to various funding agencies. In this role the candidate would not be
responsible for technical content, rather they would be supporting faculty in the administrative aspects of proposal development and submission.


The ideal candidate for this position will be someone that enjoys being part of a collaborative team environment. The successful individual will be someone who has a strong attention to detail, demonstrates good customer service and

communication skills, values continuous improvement, enjoys problem solving, and thrives in a fast paced environment with crucial timelines. This position
reports to the Research Advancement Manager at TPS.

Position Salary Range:

  • $42,480 - $59,000 per year; DOE

Essential Duties:

  • Provides administrative guidance during pre-submission, development, and administrative review.

  • Independently reviews funding announcements and provides guidance on eligibility and sponsor requirements to investigators.

  • Works with ASU's Proposal Negotiation Team and sponsors as needed for clarification of application guidelines.

  • Develops budgets and budget narratives in conjunction with investigator provided information and sponsor guidelines.

  • Provides support in document management and in the uploading of grant and contract proposals to federal, state, and private funding agencies. (i.e., current and pending support, biosketches, etc.)

  • Verifies and ensures ongoing compliance with all applicable regulatory and financial compliance requirements.

  • Assists with post submission action items requested by the sponsor such as just-in-time requests, revised budgets, scope of work changes, and additional certifications.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in pre-award sponsored research administration within a higher

  • education or research environment.

  • Experience developing proposal budgets and justifications for federal, state, industry, or foundation sponsors; or demonstrated knowledge of budgetary

  • principles, practices, and procedures.

  • Experience interpreting funding opportunity announcements and coordinating proposal submissions.

  • Knowledge of federal regulations, Uniform Guidance (2CFR 200), and sponsor guidelines.

  • Strong experience in Excel and web-based tools.

  • Ability to take initiative, be diplomatic, and effectively manage stressful situations while multi-tasking and meeting deadlines effectively through organization and time management.

  • Evidence of effective communication skills, and an analytical mindset.

Working Environment:

  • Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate-controlled office setting subject to extended period of sitting.

  • Visual acuity and manual dexterity associated with daily use of desktop computer; bending, stooping, reaching and lifting up to 20 pounds.
