Position Details

The Department of Communication’s Advertising and Public Relations (ADPR) program, within the College of Arts & Letters, seeks a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor to begin August 15, 2027, with a Ph.D. in Communication or a related terminal field (terminal degree must be earned by August 15, 2027) to join a thriving undergraduate program.

The candidate will teach courses related to Advertising Principles, Campaigns, and Strategic and Creative Direction. Teaching load is 3 courses (12 credit hours) per semester over two 15-week semesters per academic year.

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in undergraduate teaching, maintain an active record of scholarship, participate in academic advising, and engage in service to the department, college, university, and broader community. Candidates with proven track records and experience in teaching creative strategy and direction are preferred. We welcome innovative pedagogies and creative research agendas and traditions of scholarship.

Interested candidates should possess: a Ph.D. or other terminal degree related to the field, by August 15, 2027; teaching experience and professional experience are preferred.

The Department of Communication includes four vibrant majors and participates in delivering two interdisciplinary M.A. programs. Undergraduate programs include Advertising & Public Relations (ADPR); Communication, Media &Culture (CMC); Journalism (JOU), and Speech and Communication Studies (CSS). Graduate programs include the M.A.in Professional Communication (MAPC) and M.A. in Social and Emerging Media (MASEM).

The Advertising & Public Relations undergraduate program fosters three concentrations: Advertising Creative, Public Relations, and the General (combined) concentration. All three concentrations prepare students for professional and academic careers in strategic communication by featuring advanced digital facilities, education in theory and practice, advanced problem-solving, and exploration of communication ethics, as well as critical perspectives on media and culture. Small class sizes at The University of Tampa allow for mentorship connections with students, as well as student engagement with local, national, and international networks in media, advertising, and public relations.

Responsibilities

The tenure-track faculty member in this position will support the Advertising & Public Relations program in the following ways:

The successful faculty member will demonstrate expertise in, and teach:

  • foundational knowledge of advertising principles and campaign development that solves communication/marketing problems by meeting client goals and objectives
  • professional skill in Adobe software and other applications to produce creative content
  • seek opportunities for professional, scholarly, and/or creative growth and achievement
  • fulfill foundational service responsibilities indicated in The University of Tampa’s Faculty Handbook
