Your key responsibilities:
Must-Have Skills (Non-Negotiable):
- Several years of hands-on experience in modern C++ development (e.g. and above) in a professional software product environment
- Proven track record in library / SDK development for external consumers (e.g. product teams or external customers), including API design, versioning, and backward compatibility
- Strong experience developing and troubleshooting C++ libraries on Windows and Linux (toolchains, compilers, runtime specifics)
- Experience integrating native C++ libraries into larger application landscapes (desktop applications, services, tools)
- Strong focus on code quality, maintainability, and robustness (clean architecture, defensive programming, clear interfaces)
- Experience working in agile development teams (Scrum/Kanban), using Git-based workflows and peer reviews
Core Technical Requirements:
- Advanced proficiency in C++ including object-oriented design, templates, and memory management
- Experience building and delivering reusable libraries / SDKs (packaging, distribution, documentation for integrators) for Windows and Linux environments
- Familiarity with common build systems and toolchains on Windows and Linux (e.g. CMake, MSVC, GCC/Clang)
- Basic to intermediate knowledge of C# / .NET and interop between native and managed code is highly desirable
- Experience with Azure DevOps build pipelines for compilation, packaging, and artifact publishing
- Hands-on experience with automated testing (unit tests, component tests, mocking frameworks, test automation in the CI pipeline)
- Good understanding of version control with Git (branching strategies, pull requests, code reviews)
- Optional but beneficial: Experience with WPF and integration of client components into WPF applications
Broader Responsibilities the Candidate Will Own:
- End-to-end ownership of library lifecycle on Windows and Linux: from implementation and testing to documentation, releases, and maintenance
- Collaboration with architects and backend engineers to ensure seamless integration between client components, licensing backends, and customer-facing tools
- Close collaboration with teams building end-customer-installed software to ensure easy integration and intuitive use of licensing components
- Contribution to simple and intuitive user flows where client components are exposed in UI (e.g. activation dialogs, license status views) in cooperation with UI teams
- Continuous improvement of build, test, and release pipelines in Azure DevOps for cross-platform client libraries
- Contribution to coding guidelines, best practices, and technical documentation to support integrating development teams
- Participation in incident analysis and defect resolution, including debugging issues in client integrations and supporting operations where needed
Basic Requirements:
- University degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a comparable qualification
- years of professional experience in C++ software development, preferably with a focus on libraries or SDKs
- Practical experience developing and debugging C++ software on both Windows and Linux
- Experience working in international, cross-functional teams within a corporate IT or product development environment
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a structured and reliable working style
- Good communication skills in English, both written and spoken
Solid understanding of:
- Modern C++ development practices, including memory management, concurrency basics, and error handling
- API and library design principles, including encapsulation, stability, and ease of integration for consuming teams
- Cross-platform development aspects for Windows and Linux (build configurations, dependencies, toolchains)
- Software build and release processes using Azure DevOps (pipelines, artifacts, basic YAML configurations)
- Automated testing concepts and their importance for reusable components (unit, integration, regression testing)
- Secure and robust coding principles relevant for components used in customer-facing ZEISS products
- Working in a regulated enterprise environment, including documentation, traceability, and collaboration with multiple stakeholders
- Basic understanding of software licensing models and implementation patterns is a plus
