Specialty Human Services - Great American Insurance Group

SHS is currently searching for a Senior Property Claims Representative/Property Claims Specialist who will be responsible for handling a wide variety of commercial property claims.

Great American’s culture is built on connection, shared learning, and strong relationships. To support this, employees in this role are expected to be on‑site four days a week, with the flexibility to work one day remotely. Core in‑office days are Tuesday–Thursday, with the fourth day determined by business needs.


Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities

  • Investigates and maintains property claims, including those medium to significant in exposure or complexity. 

    • Reviews and evaluates coverage including drafting of Reservations of Rights and coverage disclaimers.

    • Secures and analyzes necessary information (i.e., reports, policies, appraisals, releases, statements, reports or other documents) in the investigation of claims.

    • Develop and implement resolution strategies in more complex cases.

    • Drive and support effective investigation strategies on first party and subrogation matters.

  • Works toward the resolution of claims files, and attends arbitrations, mediations, depositions or trials as necessary.

  • Establish reserves and negotiate settlements within prescribed limits and submit recommendations to supervisor on cases exceeding personal authority.

  • Conveys more complex information (coverage, decisions, outcomes, etc.) to all appropriate parties, maintaining a professional demeanor in all situations.

  • Ensures that claims payments are issued in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Ensures that claims handling is conducted in compliance with applicable statutes, regulations and other legal requirements, and that all applicable company procedures and policies are followed.

  • Interacts with underwriting and marketing regarding claims trend issues.

  • May provide technical guidance to less experienced adjusters and other functional areas (mentors, delegates and reviews assignments).

  • Participate in claims projects or project components as needed.

  • Other duties as needed.


Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Generally, 3 or more years of experience handling commercial property claims.  Multi-line adjusters with related experience are encouraged to apply.

  • Strong skills in customer service, computers, verbal and written communications, time management, and organizational skills.

  • Able to perform work with limited supervision within prescribed claims authority.
