WHAT YOU'LL DO
The Public Records Specialist manages and processes a variety of police records and Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests, including highly sensitive audio and video materials.

Requirements
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Process and respond to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests in accordance with applicable laws and Department procedures.
- Review raw audio and video footage to identify records responsive to FOIA requests.
- Utilize specialized software to meticulously blur faces, redact identifying information, remove sensitive audio, and protect confidential information.
- Apply appropriate redactions involving juveniles, undercover officers, uninvolved victims, and other protected individuals in accordance with privacy laws and applicable exemptions.
- Review police reports, records, photographs, video, audio, and other documentation for completeness and accuracy.
- Perform detailed quality assurance reviews of redacted digital files before records are released to the public, media, or defense attorneys.
- Maintain accurate, organized, and confidential records.
- Communicate professionally with members of the public, media representatives, attorneys, law enforcement personnel, and Village staff.
- Assist with records management, document retention, and other administrative functions of the Police Department.
- Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive and potentially graphic or confidential information.
- Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, technologically proficient, organized, and comfortable working with confidential and sensitive information.
Qualified candidates should have:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in public records, records management, law enforcement, municipal government, legal services, administrative support, or a related field is preferred.
- Strong computer and technology skills and the ability to learn specialized software applications.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to interpret and follow laws, policies, procedures, and confidentiality requirements.
- Ability to manage multiple requests and deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills.
- Ability to exercise discretion, sound judgment, and professionalism when handling sensitive information.
- Experience with FOIA, police records, video redaction, or digital evidence management is a plus.
