Description

What You'll Do:

The Senior Network Systems Engineer will head a team responsible for the design, implementation, security, and sustainment of the network infrastructure supporting Navy Live, Virtual, and Constructive (LVC) training systems. In this role you will develop network engineering solutions, prepare technical documentation, and support the installation, integration, testing, and sustainment of secure network systems. Working alongside senior systems engineers, the cybersecurity team, and government technical leads, you will translate approved requirements and architecture into reliable, supportable network implementations.

This position will be based in Norfolk, VA.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and interpret engineering design packages, logical and physical network diagrams, rack elevations, one-line diagrams, cable schedules, and installation drawings.
  • Evaluate copper and fiber cabling pathways, rack layouts, and inside/outside plant interfaces; coordinate infrastructure requirements with facility and installation teams.
  • Configure, deploy, and troubleshoot routers, switches, firewalls, VLANs, routing, and LAN/WAN connections within approved network architectures.
  • Provide technical oversight during installation, verify work against approved drawings, and document discrepancies and as-built changes.
  • Develop and execute network integration and test procedures; diagnose connectivity, performance, and interoperability issues and document results.
  • Coordinate with ISSO and ISSE personnel on network hardening, STIG implementation, remediation, and technical evidence supporting RMF activities.
  • Maintain configuration baselines, equipment inventories, bills of material, change records, and operational documentation; mentor team members and brief technical risks.
  • This position may require up to 25% annual travel.

This description outlines the general nature and scope of the role. Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

Requirements

What You'll Bring:

  • 9 years of progressively responsible experience designing, implementing, and maintaining enterprise and tactical network infrastructures. A bachelor's degree in a STEM related area of study may be considered in lieu of the full 9 years of experience.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, integrating, and troubleshooting enterprise network infrastructure.
  • Ability to develop and interpret network engineering drawings, rack elevations, cable schedules, and installation documentation.
  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP, routing and switching, VLANs, subnetting, network segmentation, firewall controls, and copper/fiber connectivity.
  • Ability to plan and validate network changes, maintain accurate documentation, and explain technical issues to engineers, customers, and program leadership.
  • Experience supporting DoD or Navy training networks, secure facilities, and distributed system integration is a plus.

Certification Requirements:

  • Required for this position: CCNP Enterprise, Security, or Data Center, and an operating system certification (Linux+ preferred). In addition, one of the following industry certifications is required: SecurityX/CASP+, CCNA, CCSP, GCED, GCIA, GCLD, GDSA, GFACT.
  • A master's degree or Ph.D. in Engineering, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Information Systems or Information Technology, or Software Engineering may be considered in lieu of one of the listed certifications, however one of the listed CCNP certifications will still be required.

If you are unsure if you qualify based on the above information, we get it! Please go ahead and apply anyway, we are happy to review your credentials. Please upload copies of any relevant certifications as part of your application.
