Description
The Tukwila Parks & Recreation Department is actively seeking a Golf Fleet Technician who is energetic, enthusiastic, a self-starter, and has a general understanding of the game of golf and how the associated job applies to the goals of the Golf Maintenance Staff.
The Golf Fleet Technician reports directly to the Golf Course Superintendent. This position is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and management of all the equipment associated with the golf course. In addition, the position will ensure an excellent quality of cut on all mowing equipment at all times. Accurate and thorough record keeping, maintaining inventories, and communication with management is also expected from this position.

Hiring Salary Range: $6,619 - $8,048 per month (t18), plus excellent benefits.
Note: We don’t typically hire at the top of the range.
This position is represented by Teamsters 763, and works Monday – Friday, start times may vary based on season.

- Performs maintenance and repairs on mowers, equipment, small tools, and golf carts; sharpens reels, maintains bed-knife to reel gaps, adjust mower heights, changes oils, filters, sparkplugs, greases fittings, monitors tire pressure.
- Outfits equipment with protective screening, lights, and decals.
- Works on electrical systems, repairs heating and cooling systems, performs custom fabrications, and repairs engines all associated with golf course maintenance equipment.
- Selects and purchases various equipment and supplies as needed and maintains inventory.
- Diagnoses and troubleshoots vehicle and equipment problems in the shop and in the field.
- Designs and fabricate equipment parts not readily available including welding fatigued or failed components, converting equipment to meet seasonal needs, adding modifications to existing equipment, and designing specialized tools and accessories. Performs routine inspections and preventive maintenance activities for City vehicles and equipment.
- Prepares and maintains various records, documents, and reports.
- Provides technical advice to others working in the shop and monitors shop equipment to ensure that the equipment is in safe working order.
- Maintains reasonable, predictable, and regular attendance during the standard work week.
- Responds to service calls for emergency repair. Tests equipment on the course and occasionally assist with tasks on the course in various situations.
- Assists departments in writing specifications for new equipment and vehicles; installs equipment; and makes modifications to equipment, and vehicles.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Thorough understanding of mechanical operations for engines, electrical systems and hydraulics.
- Maintenance and repair methods and techniques related to maintaining golf equipment.
- Safety precautions applicable to maintaining golf equipment.
- Tools and equipment used in maintaining golf equipment.
- Laws and regulations applicable to maintaining golf equipment.
- Troubleshooting and diagnostic procedures related to systems maintained; and
- Material management techniques
SKILLS (position requirements at entry):
- Performing skilled and journey level maintenance activities related to golf equipment;
- Troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing golf equipment;
- Using hand and power tools and diagnostic equipment and instruments;
- Operating golf equipment and vehicles maintained;
- Inventorying and ordering materials and supplies;
- Applying customer service techniques;
- Establishing and maintaining effective interpersonal relationships at all organizational levels and with the public; and
- Communication, both oral and written, sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction;
- Fabrication and welding.
TRAINING, EXPERIENCE AND LICENSING REQUIREMENTS (Position requirements at entry):
Completion of an approved vocational program and three years of journey level mechanic experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
- Valid State of Washington Driver's License;
- First Aid and CPR certification
Desired Qualifications (but not required):
Minimum experience of 2-3 years in maintenance, repair, and management associated with the golf course or small engine repair is a plus!
- Ability to work weekends and overtime (only as needed during events)
- Must be well organized, motivated, a self-starter, and able to work in a fast paced, high energy environment
- Must have a good attitude and be able to work well with others
- Working knowledge of small and large engines (including diesels), reel mowers, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
- Ability to schedule and organize maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of equipment with staff and record keeping on computer devices.
- Operational knowledge of reel cutting and bed knife Grinding machines - preferably Foley Accu-pro 633 and Quickspin 672.
Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, mobility, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
- Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
