Scope of work - Surgery

Under general supervision of the registered nurse is responsible for performing various tasks to facilitate efficient and smooth management of surgical/endoscopic patients and procedures in a safe and timely manner. The Surgical Services Assistant transports patients, prepares patients for procedures. Inventories and order supplies per established unit levels. Turn over the OR room, wipe all the equipment down in the OR room, mop the floors, bring in equipment for the following case.

 

Responsibilities:

 

·       Patient Support:

·       Transport or pick up patients to/from recovery or hospital floors

·       Assist in positioning and prepping patients for surgery when requested

·       Report any unusual patient concerns to appropriate staff and seek help as needed

·       Help clean patients after surgery

 

·       Room & Supply Management:

·       Stock operating rooms and warmers

·       Ensure OR lead is properly hung

·       Return unused supplies and instruments to Central Services Processing

 

·       Specimen & Equipment Handling:

·       Transport specimens and x-rays

·       Obtain blood products from blood and tissue bank

·       Assist in retrieving equipment for surgical procedures

 

·       General Department Support:

·       Provide assistance to staff and physicians (e.g., emptying/replacing bins)

·       Support room turnover between cases:

·       Wipe down equipment

·       Mop floors

·       Bring in equipment for the next case

·       Assist with opening sterile supplies and instruments if requested

 

·       Flexibility:

·       Perform additional support tasks as needed; duties are not all-inclusive

 

 

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent Required
• Successful completion of a minimum of one to three months of on-the -job training to become familiar with equipment and processes, to provide a safe environment for patients to prevent injury or delay in discharge Required
• AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) Required upon hire
