Job Details
ChristianaCare is seeking a reliable, team-oriented Food & Nutrition Services Associate to support patient meal service operations and departmental sanitation functions. In this role, you will help ensure patients receive accurate meals while maintaining the highest standards of food safety, cleanliness, and customer service.
Primary Function
The Food & Nutrition Services Associate is responsible for assembling high-volume patient meal trays, replenishing hot and cold food items, performing ware washing and pot washing duties, and supporting utility and sanitation functions throughout the department. Team members are expected to follow all departmental policies, procedures, and safety guidelines while delivering exceptional service.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble patient meal trays accurately and efficiently according to meal tickets and delivery schedules.
- Use proper serving utensils and portion control standards.
- Read, interpret, and prepare trays for regular and modified diets.
- Differentiate between standard and therapeutic diet requirements, including modified food textures and liquid consistencies.
- Replenish food items on tray lines to support meal service operations.
- Operate and maintain food service equipment, including dish machines, pot sinks, and sanitation stations.
- Record dish machine temperatures and follow required documentation procedures.
- Perform pot washing and ware washing functions using approved cleaning and sanitizing methods.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas, including proper trash removal and recycling procedures.
- Follow infection prevention standards, including:
- Proper food handling and storage
- Temperature monitoring
- Prevention of cross-contamination
- Product labeling and stock rotation
- Appropriate use of gloves and protective equipment
- Comply with all organizational, state, and regulatory safety requirements.

- Report safety concerns, hazards, and violations promptly.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Current high school students may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to read, write, and follow instructions.
- Ability to understand and follow departmental policies and procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent teamwork and customer service skills.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
Physical Requirements
Applicants must be able to:
- Stand and walk for extended periods.
- Bend, reach, twist, stoop, push, pull, and carry materials.
- Lift up to 30 pounds.
- Meet physical examination requirements, including vision, hearing, speech, and mobility standards.
Working Conditions
This position may involve:
- Exposure to infectious materials through returned patient trays.
- Exposure to cleaning chemicals and sanitation products.
- Working around food service equipment and machinery.
- Exposure to varying temperatures, including hot serving areas, refrigerators, and freezers.
