Job Description Summary

The Services Systems Engineering Leader is a pivotal, SPB1 role within the Heavy Duty Service Engineering (HDSE) organization. Accountable for the Services Systems Engineering pillar, this leader owns the Fleet Systems Engineering, MYA Systems Engineering, and MYA Systems Reliability Engineering Teams.

The defining opportunity of this role is to integrate systems thinking across our fleet lifecycle. This leader is responsible for ensuring that our design and reliability programs—from NPI to catalog updates—are optimized for landed value and scalable service execution. A key strategic mandate of this role is to lead the development of high-impact New Product Introductions (NPIs) that directly fuel our ambition to achieve a $4B upgrade business by 2030. This leader acts as the architect of our fleet roadmap, balancing current performance with long-term technological evolution, ensuring our engineering capacity is focused on the most critical fleet reliability and commercial drivers. Owns/influences budgets and operating plans. The role is guided by operating policy. Works with cross functional teams. The role has autonomy within the operational area or a segment within a larger business unit. The role may have a major impact on a small business unit or Family within a Function or P&L. High levels of evaluative judgment and operational acumen are required to achieve outcomes.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Architect the Fleet Roadmap: Define the vision and strategy for the systems engineering organization, ensuring technology roadmaps are tightly aligned with the aggressive growth targets for the $4B global upgrade business.
  • Systems Thinking & Integration: Lead the integration of engineering outputs—ensuring seamless transitions between NPI programs, catalog updates, and field implementation. Drive "Systems Thinking" across RCAs and NPIs to ensure engineering decisions consider the entire plant life-cycle.
  • Reliability & Productivity Ownership: Drive the execution of MYA productivity initiatives. Own the reliability estimates used for quotes and guarantees, ensuring that NPI programs and catalog updates are grounded in high-confidence, data-driven reliability projections.
  • Cross-Functional Strategic Partnership: Partner closely with the Fleet Operational Intelligence pillar to turn proactive insights into design-level changes, and with Product Service Engineering (PSE) to ensure deep domain technical expertise informs our long-term fleet strategies.
  • Operating Model Governance: Establish a world-class global operating rhythm. Implement Lean daily management and standard work to eliminate duplicated efforts, clarify accountability, and increase execution speed.
  • Platform & Portfolio Excellence: Lead the GT, ST, GEN, Plant, and Platform engineering teams to maintain high technical standards, ensure platform-level alignment, and prioritize critical-to-quality requirements for the installed base.

Required Qualifications

  • For roles outside of the USA- This role requires significant experience in the Engineering/Technology & Systems Engineering. Knowledge level is comparable to a Master's degree from an accredited university or college ( or a high school diploma with relevant experience).
  • For roles in USA - Master's degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma / GED with at least 10 years of experience in Job Family Group(s)/Function(s)).
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex technical portfolios, including NPI programs, fleet strategy, or service upgrades.
  • Proven ability to translate high-level business strategy into executable engineering programs within a matrixed environment.

Desired Characteristics

  • Strategic Architect: Demonstrated ability to view the fleet as an integrated system and prioritize long-term performance and reliability over short-term reactive fixes.
  • Systems Thinker: Deep experience in RCA/CAPA, NPI lifecycle, and the "wing-to-wing" engineering process.
  • One Team Mentality: Leads horizontally, collaborates across functions, and focuses on reducing organizational fragmentation.
  • Lean Practitioner: Demonstrable track record of using Lean to drive standardization and improve engineering throughput.
  • Executive Influence: Ability to represent complex technical roadmaps and platform risks to senior leadership, commercial teams, and external customers.
  • Servant Leader: Focused on building team cohesion, clearing roadblocks, and developing the next generation of systems engineering talent.
  • Note:

To comply with US immigration and other legal requirements, it is necessary to specify the minimum number of years' experience required for any role based within the USA. For roles outside of the USA, to ensure compliance with applicable legislation, the JDs should focus on the substantive level of experience required for the role and a minimum number of years should NOT be used.
