Strategy & Results:

  • Develop and implement a strategic business plan for the program that includes planning, implementation, program sustainment, growth, and evaluation — with clear, results-oriented targets.
  • Define what success looks like for the veterans served and hold the program accountable to those outcomes; concentrate resources where the program can have the greatest impact.
  • Assess program performance honestly — identifying successes to build on as well as areas for improvement — and adjust course based on evidence.

Leadership & People:

  • Effectively lead the Mission United team by setting clear direction and high standards, then giving team members the ownership and support to do their best work.
  • Responsible for the supervision of subordinate employees, which includes training, developing, measuring performance, disciplining and directing tasks. Has authority to hire, transfer, promote, compensate, or terminate subordinate employees, or recommend such actions.
  • Address performance issues directly and constructively, tied to observable standards and outcomes.

Operations & Quality:

  • Oversee day-to-day operations, activities, and performance.
  • Ensure effective procedures are in place for service delivery and client outreach.
  • Ensure that evaluation metrics and protocols are in place to assess achievement of desired client and initiative outcomes.
  • Oversee data collection and management, holding the program’s data and reporting to a high standard of accuracy; prepare and deliver program reports.
  • Manage the Advisory Committee and all subcommittees.

Partnerships & Community:

  • Develop and manage strategic partnerships to enhance the work of Mission United and maximize impact, leveraging the veteran and family network as a primary channel for trust and referrals.
  • Promote Mission United to the Miami-Dade community, local businesses, the social service community, and other key groups.
  • Lead and organize key community engagement events that connect veterans and their families to Mission United and to one another, building trust and strengthening the program's reach.
  • Represent the program and United Way at various community meetings, conferences, and committees; attend and participate in UW special events to support fundraising efforts.
  • Understand United Way and effectively interact with other areas internally to maximize and leverage opportunities.

Organizational Commitment:

  • Due to the leadership role United Way is called upon to play in the community, particularly in times of crisis, it is the expectation that all United Way staff will be fully engaged in the organization’s crisis plan and response efforts.
