Position Summary
New Horizon Services is seeking a dependable and safety-conscious Transportation Driver to provide courteous, timely, and reliable transportation for clients. This position is responsible for safely operating company vehicles, assisting passengers as needed, maintaining accurate trip records, and creating a welcoming experience for every rider.
Key Responsibilities
- Transport clients safely and punctually to scheduled appointments, programs, activities, and other approved destinations.
- Follow assigned routes and schedules while communicating delays or changes promptly.
- Assist passengers with entering and exiting the vehicle, including individuals with mobility needs.
- Secure wheelchairs, mobility devices, seat belts, and other safety equipment properly.
- Conduct required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
- Keep vehicles clean, fueled, organized, and ready for service.
- Report accidents, safety concerns, mechanical problems, and passenger incidents immediately.
- Maintain accurate mileage, inspection, fuel, passenger, and trip records.
- Follow traffic laws, company procedures, confidentiality requirements, and applicable transportation regulations.
- Treat clients, families, coworkers, and community partners with patience, dignity, and respect.
- Respond calmly and appropriately during emergencies or unexpected situations.
- Participate in required meetings, training, and safety programs.
- Perform other transportation-related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record.
- Must meet company and insurance eligibility requirements.
- Ability to pass required background checks, drug screening, and driving-record review.
- Current CPR and first-aid certification, or willingness to obtain certification.
- Strong communication, time-management, and customer-service skills.
- Ability to use navigation tools and follow written or electronic schedules.
- Dependable attendance and the flexibility to work varying hours when required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in passenger transportation, healthcare, senior services, disability services, or a related field.
- Experience operating wheelchair-accessible vehicles.
- Knowledge of defensive-driving practices and passenger-assistance procedures.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit and drive for extended periods.
- Ability to bend, reach, stand, and assist passengers safely.
- Ability to push or maneuver wheelchairs and mobility devices.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to work in varying traffic and weather conditions.
