Job Description:

As the leader of the ST&S Crisis & Continuity Management (C&CM) team, you will set the strategic direction for crisis management, business continuity and operational resilience across bp’s global Supply, Trading & Shipping (ST&S) business. You will lead and develop a high-performing team who are diverse, dynamic and passionate about ensuring the business is actively prepared to respond to a wide range of risk. Partnering with senior leaders to strengthen preparedness, oversee exercises and assurance, and provide leadership during live incidents. By ensuring critical trading, shipping and supporting activities can withstand and recover from disruption, you will help ST&S operate safely, reliably, compliantly and competitively while protecting value and enabling sustainable growth.

Key accountabilities

  • Lead the global ST&S Crisis & Continuity Management programme, ensuring the business remains prepared, resilient and able to respond and recover from disruption.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing global ST&S C&CM team, fostering collaboration, capability and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with ST&S leadership to identify, manage and mitigate operational and resilience risks that could impact safety and business performance.
  • Ensure crisis management, emergency response, business continuity and operational resilience arrangements meet regulatory requirements and bp standards.
  • Oversee the ST&S C&CM training, exercise and assurance programmes to strengthen preparedness and validate response capability.
  • Provide strategic reporting and insights to leadership, governance forums and board committees on crisis response and resilience and programme improvement priorities.
  • Lead response support during significant incidents and crises, providing direction and guidance to senior leadership on effective decision-making, stakeholder coordination, critical issue management and business recovery activities.
  • Build strong partnerships across ST&S, bp functions and external partners to enhance crisis response and operational resilience.
  • Act as a member of the wider Crisis & Continuity Management and Operational Resilience leadership team, influencing strategy, sharing standard methodology and supporting enterprise-wide resilience objectives.
  • Drive continuous improvement by embedding lessons from incidents, exercises, audits and industry events into business practices.
  • Handle the ST&S C&CM budget and resources to deliver strategic business priorities, meet regulatory requirement and deliver continuous improvements.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Significant experience leading crisis management, business continuity, operational resilience or emergency response programmes within complex, global organisations.
  • Proven leadership experience developing and leading high-performing, geographically distributed teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior leaders and drive outcomes across a matrixed organisation.
  • Extensive experience designing, implementing and continuously improving crisis response and resilience frameworks and programmes.
  • Experience leading or supporting significant incidents and crises, providing strategic direction and decision support in high-pressure environments.
  • Strong understanding of operational risk and operational resilience and regulatory requirements relating to these.
  • Ability to develop and deliver executive-level briefings, reports and communications on complex resilience and crisis topics.
  • Experience leading executive and large-scale training, exercising and capability development programmes for senior leadership teams.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships across business, functional and external partners.
  • Proven ability to lead through ambiguity, manage contending priorities and make sound decisions during rapidly evolving situations.
  • Global geopolitical awareness including an understanding of how global security risks affect the maritime environment.
  • Knowledge of relevant industry standards and bp frameworks relating to crisis management, business continuity and operational resilience. A professional certification (e.g. MBCI) is desirable.
  • Experience in energy, trading, financial services or other highly regulated, operationally critical environments is strongly preferred.
