The Cleveland Clinic Cancer Institute at Weston hospital offers comprehensive hematology and oncology services, including specialized care for blood disorders and cancers, with a focus on patient-centered, collaborative care and innovation. The clinic provides a range of services, including diagnosis, treatment and prevention of blood cancers and related disorders. As an Ambulatory LPN Nightingale on this floor, you will have the opportunity to leverage your experience as an Ambulatory LPN while sharing your knowledge with newer clinical caregivers across the organization. This position is designed for an experienced LPN who has recently retired and has a desire to transfer knowledge, support professional development, and help strengthen the skills of fellow caregivers. In this role, you will perform patient care activities and complete required documentation for patients of all ages across a variety of ambulatory care settings.

This is a regular PRN (as needed) position, with caregivers working days between 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.


A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Collect and document objective and subjective data and observations about the patient.

  • Contribute observations and health information to the nursing assessment and report all data to the RN or authorized directing health care provider.

  • Implement the current plan of nursing care at the direction of the RN, or the medication or treatment authorized by the authorized directing health care provider.

  • Document and verbally communicate the patient’s response to the nursing plan of care, or the medication or treatment including observing patients for adverse reactions to medications or treatments and performing routine laboratory tests.

  • Contribute to the revision of the nursing plan of care.

  • Provide education and information to patients and family members.

  • Maintain professional growth and development within nursing field.   

  • Participate in the department orientation of new employees in a positive manner, share knowledge, experiences and provide guidance when assigned.

  • Other duties as assigned

 
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Graduate of an approved school of Practical Nursing

  • Current Ohio License as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross

  • Two years of experience in an LPN Ambulatory position at the Cleveland Clinic immediately prior to retirement

  • Demonstrated clinical competence

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

  • Previous experience in Oncology

  • Advanced knowledge of chemotherapy medications and protocols

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.

  • Requires corrected hearing and vision to normal range.

  • May require some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.

  • Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
