Description

Full-Time | New Haven, CT (with one day per week in Bridgeport)
Salary: $44,000 + Excellent Benefits

Every child deserves the chance to thrive.

Imagine being the person who helps a newly arrived refugee child walk into their new school for the very first time. The person who helps parents understand an unfamiliar school system. The one who creates opportunities for children to build friendships, gain confidence, and dream about college, careers, and their future.

If that sounds like meaningful work to you, we'd love to meet you.

The Connecticut Institute for Refugees and Immigrants (CIRI) is seeking a compassionate, organized, and energetic Children & Youth Services Coordinator to help refugee children and families successfully navigate life, school, and community in Connecticut.

This is much more than a program coordination position—it's an opportunity to make a lasting difference in the lives of children who are building new beginnings.

Why You'll Love Working at CIRI

At CIRI, we believe that caring for our staff is just as important as caring for our clients.

When you join our team, you'll find:

Make an Impact Every Day

Help refugees and immigrants overcome barriers and build successful, self-sufficient lives in Connecticut.

A Mission-Driven Team

Work alongside passionate, supportive colleagues who genuinely care about one another and the communities we serve.

Opportunities to Grow

We encourage learning, collaboration, and professional development so you can continue building your career.

Work That Matters

Build lasting relationships with families, schools, volunteers, and community partners while creating opportunities for children and youth to succeed.

Outstanding Benefits

We offer a comprehensive benefits package including:

  • Competitive salary of $44,000
  • Medical insurance (3 plan options)
  • Dental and Vision coverage
  • Employer-paid Life Insurance
  • Employer-paid Long-Term Disability
  • Optional Voluntary Life Insurance
  • Optional Identity Theft Protection
  • 403(b) Retirement Plan
  • 20 days Paid Time Off
  • 13 Paid Holidays
  • Commitment to work-life balance and employee wellness
  • Eligibility for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program

CIRI participates in E-Verify.

What You'll Do

You'll coordinate programs that help refugee children and youth succeed both academically and socially.

Your work will include:

  • Helping newly arrived students enroll in school and successfully transition into their new classrooms.
  • Building strong partnerships with schools, teachers, counselors, and administrators.
  • Supporting families as they learn to navigate the U.S. education system.
  • Coordinating educational workshops and family learning opportunities.
  • Connecting students with tutoring, enrichment, after-school programs, and community resources.
  • Developing programming that helps teens prepare for college, trade schools, apprenticeships, and careers.
  • Coordinating CIRI's Refugee Summer Academy, including planning activities, supporting teachers and volunteers, and managing day-to-day operations.
  • Collaborating with case managers and other CIRI staff to ensure children receive culturally responsive, trauma-informed support.
  • Coordinating interpretation services when needed to help schools and families communicate effectively.
  • Tracking program outcomes and maintaining accurate client documentation to meet grant and reporting requirements.

No two days are exactly alike—and that's one of the things that makes this role so rewarding.

We're Looking For Someone Who...

  • Has a bachelor's degree in Education, Social Work, Psychology, Public Health, International Studies, Human Services, or a related field.
  • Has experience working with children, youth, and families.
  • Enjoys building relationships with people from many cultures and backgrounds.
  • Is highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities.
  • Communicates with empathy, patience, and professionalism.
  • Believes every child deserves access to education and opportunity.
  • Can work independently while also being a collaborative team member.
  • Is committed to maintaining healthy professional boundaries.
  • Has a valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and auto insurance.
  • Can occasionally work evenings or weekends for special events or programming.

Preferred Qualifications

We're especially interested in candidates who have:

  • Experience working with refugee or immigrant communities
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practices
  • Experience working with high school students
  • Experience using client databases or case management systems
  • Fluency in Dari or Pashto
