Overview
The REDCap Administrator 1 is an entry-level role on Yale's REDCap program team, supporting the university's REDCap (Research Electronic Data Capture) platform across its research community. This is the foundational rung of Yale's REDCap admin career ladder — the role is deliberately broad rather than specialized, building the general REDCap administration skill that later work (management, infrastructure/EM development, or Part 11 validation) all grows out of.
The primary focus of this role is end-user support: helping researchers, study coordinators, and project teams use REDCap effectively, troubleshooting issues, and answering questions as they come in. Alongside that, the role is explicitly a learning position — the incumbent is expected to build REDCap expertise on the job, with structured onboarding and mentorship from senior team members, rather than arriving with deep REDCap experience already in hand.
End User Support (primary focus)
- Respond to and resolve end-user questions and support tickets related to REDCap functionality, project setup, and day-to-day use
- Troubleshoot common issues (survey distribution, data entry, user rights, branching logic, basic reporting) and escalate more complex cases to senior team members
- Staff REDCap office hours / help sessions for researchers and study teams
- Maintain clear, accurate documentation of common issues and their resolutions
Learning & REDCap Fundamentals
- Build working knowledge of REDCap project design and configuration (instruments, events, branching logic, data validation) — understanding how projects are built is what makes it possible to support them well
- Complete REDCap administrator training (formal training required within the first months on the job; prior REDCap experience is a plus but not required)
- Learn Yale's specific REDCap environment: the four production instances (RC1, RC2, Connect, P11), how they differ, and where to route requests that fall outside this role's scope
Supporting Training & Documentation
- Assist with delivering introductory REDCap training sessions and materials under guidance from senior staff
- Help keep end-user-facing documentation (FAQs, knowledge base articles) current and accurate
Operations Support
- Assist with routine REDCap administrative tasks under supervision (user account support, basic system checks)
- Learn the basics of Yale's Part 11–validated environment (P11) and why certain projects require additional rigor
