About the role:
Performs skilled work in the maintenance, repair, and operation of County buildings, grounds, and facility systems. Responsibilities include electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, drywall, landscaping, and preventative maintenance.

• Performs skilled trade work including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, welding, drywall, and painting repairs across County buildings.
• Conducts preventive maintenance on facility systems and equipment such as motors, boilers, chillers, and filters, including greasing, belt changes, and inspections.
• Installs, repairs, and troubleshoots lighting, outlets, fixtures, toilets, appliances, doors, and other building hardware.
• Coordinates with the IT department to install and support security cameras, DSX access systems, and related infrastructure.
• Provides general landscaping and grounds maintenance, including watering, planting, and minor earthwork tasks.
• Performs snow and ice removal duties including salting sidewalks and clearing snow from entrances and parking areas.
• Collaborates with contractors and vendors, organizing and supervising on-site project activities as needed.
• Maintains logs and service schedules for building systems and repair activities; assists in maintaining CMMS and BAS records.
• Purchases tools, supplies, and parts to complete repair and maintenance tasks in accordance with County procedures.
• Provides excellent customer service by responding to maintenance requests and ensuring building functionality and occupant comfort.

• High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate of Applied Science or one (1) year Diploma in HVAC, Electrical, Industrial Maintenance or closely related area preferred.  
• One (1) to three (3) years of experience in the repair and maintenance of buildings and mechanical equipment required. 
• Must successfully complete Linn County Facilities Department Core required courses/tests: Home Electrical, Home Plumbing, Building Automation System (BAS), and Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) within 90 days of employment. 
• Valid State of Iowa Driver's License required.
