Job Summary
This leadership role is responsible for managing a geographic underwriting operation, including supervising underwriting staff, driving profitable growth, overseeing underwriting decisions, strengthening agency relationships, and developing team members through coaching and performance management. The ideal candidate brings at least eight years of property and casualty insurance experience, including leadership experience, strong analytical and communication skills, a bachelor's degree, and preferably a CPCU designation.
Work Location
This position offers a hybrid work schedule. Candidates who are located within 50 miles of a West Bend office location will work a hybrid schedule for collaboration days, team meetings or other in-person events. The position can be based in West Bend or Madison.

Responsibilities & Qualifications
Summary of Responsibilities
- Accountable for the management of a geographic underwriting operation, including Supervisors, Underwriters, and Assistant Underwriters, which could consist of home office or field associates.
- Foster agency relationships in assigned territory, through in person travel.
- Oversee the acceptance, declination, and pricing of risks.
- Counsel and mentor assigned group of Underwriters on complicated risks and review underwriting decisions on risk exceeding their authority.
- Accountable for profitable growth and performance of book of business.
- Make recommendations or implement underwriting guidelines or pricing adjustments when appropriate.
- Responsible for the training and mentoring of associates, as well as initiating personnel actions such as salary adjustments, performance evaluations, promotions, etc.
Preferred Experience and Skills
- 8 years of professional experience in the property/casualty insurance industry with at least 3 years in a leadership role
- Leadership skills, with the ability to mentor and develop others
- Analytical, organizational, planning and communication skills
- Valid drivers license
Preferred Education and Training
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Insurance or related field
- CPCU designation
Salary Statement
The salary range for this position is $123,659.00-$154,574.00
The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, business needs, geographical location, and internal equity. Compensation decisions are made by West Bend and are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
