Since 1998, CENTERS remains the first and only mission centric organization committed to student development and departmental excellence on behalf of its clients. CENTERS is currently operating university campus recreation centers at ten site locations within the United States.

 

Program  Explanation

Internship program for students interested in pursuing a career in the Recreation industry. Our program is aimed at students that are juniors, seniors or master’s level that need class credit or experience before searching for a graduate assistantship or seeking full time employment.

 

Campus Recreation Interns will be given experience similar to graduate assistants and looked at as professional staff while working for our department. Expectations will include:

• Program development and oversight
• Student staff development and oversight
• Project development and execution

Responsibilities

Essential Responsibilities:

• Work 20 to 25 hours per week depending on deparmental needs. 
• Assist the Coordinator of Aquatics & Youth Programming with the administration, management and supervision of a comprehensive array of Youth Programming intiatives serving children aged 5-12. Includes the planning, marketing and promotion, scheduling, execution, budget and evaluation of 10 week long summer camp sessions.
• Recruit, hire, train, supervise, develop and evaluate up to 35 summer camp counselors.
• Assist the Coordinator of Aquatics & Youth Programming in planning, organization, execution and evaluation of a formal training program for summer camp counselors
• Manage the registration process and logistics related to summer camps. Provide the highest level of customer service to parents, student staff and children enrolled in camps
• During camp weeks, enforce Campus Recreation facility, program and pool policies, procedures and regulations. Serve as liaison between parents and summer camp counselors, as well as liaison between parents and Coordinator of Aquatics & Youth Programming.
• Recognize and respond effectively to emergencies. Responsible for risk management
• Compile statistics and reports to assess and evaluate the success of summer camps. Utilize online survey tool to gather parent feedback.
• Make recommendations for summer camp programming, inventory and budget

Other Responsibilities:

• Assisting in facility and office management;
• Attend staff meetings as scheduled
• Work within a non-smoking environment
• Other duties as required.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

• Seeking or recently completed Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Sports Management, Recreation Management, Elementary Education, Physical Education or related field.
• Currently certified in CPR/AED/FA (or willing to obtain within two weeks of employment). Minimum 2.5 GPA (Preferred 3.0 GPA or higher);
• High personal integrity;
• Ability to work as part of a professional team that collaborates effectively with colleagues;
• Entrepreneurial spirit and enthusiasm;
• Analytical skills to: identify problems, assess alternatives, render consistent, logical decisions;
• Knowledge of standard practices in recreational sports;
• Ability to thrive in an environment that values high expectations, accountability, and balanced lifestyles;
• Ability to pass national and local background check 

Preferred Requirements:

• AED/CPR Certified (or willing to obtain)
• Previous experience working with children highly preferred

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office. 

Human RelationsInternal contacts include staff at all levels. External contacts include external customers and vendors. Contact involves troubleshooting, informing, exchanging information, negotiating, making recommendations, and giving information or instructions.
