What you'll be doing

As the Private Banking Region Head, Midwest, you’ll lead, grow, and manage a team of experienced Private Bankers and advisors across St. Louis, MO, Milwaukee, WI, and Birmingham, MI, while driving sales performance and expanding the region’s client base. You’ll partner closely with Private Wealth Management leaders, Private Banking leadership, and practice leaders to develop and execute growth plans focused on loans, deposits, assets under management, revenue, and profitability. You’ll help set the tone and pace for the market by actively supporting new client acquisition and retention, identifying opportunities through direct market outreach, internal CIBC partnerships, and affiliated organizations. You’ll also ensure the team is equipped to deliver an exceptional client experience while managing risk and portfolio quality effectively.

At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. To successfully perform the work of this role, you'll generally be on-site full-time with flexibility.

How you'll succeed

  • Business growth and market leadership - Drive regional growth by expanding loans, deposits, and new client relationships while identifying opportunities to deepen client engagement through assets under management and referrals to other lines of business, including Commercial Banking.

  • Team leadership and talent development - Recruit, lead, and develop a high-performing team of Private Banking advisors, Market Managers, Private Bankers, and Associates through clear direction, coaching, performance management, and ongoing professional development.

  • Client acquisition and relationship management - Lead by example in acquiring new clients and strengthening existing relationships by identifying lending, deposit, and broader banking opportunities that align to client needs.

  • Risk and portfolio oversight - Oversee balance sheet, profit and loss, and risk management metrics across the region, including loans, deposits, banking fee income, portfolio quality, fraud management, portfolio reviews, renewals, and collection of key financial information.

  • Credit structuring and execution - Ensure consistency in deal structuring and underwriting by aligning client needs with appropriate risk mitigation, supporting detailed credit analysis, and contributing to the successful progression of deals through approval and closing.

  • Partnerships and market presence - Strengthen CIBC's presence in the market by building strong internal and external partnerships, participating in local market and industry events, and sharing insights on sales practices, business trends, and unmet client needs.

Who you are

  • You're an accomplished sales and relationship leader. You bring a strong track record of building trusted relationships, growing wealth management assets, and delivering tailored banking solutions for high-net-worth clients.

  • You have deep private banking experience. You bring at least 15 years of experience developing and managing lending, deposit, and asset management relationships with high-net-worth individuals, families, and institutions.

  • You have strong credit and financial expertise. You have demonstrated experience in credit analysis, underwriting, risk identification, and portfolio management, along with working knowledge of investment portfolios and trust solutions. A bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Real Estate, Economics, or a related field is required, and formal credit training is an asset.

  • You're a strategic and inspiring people leader. You have experience setting team direction, coaching employees, building talent pipelines, and creating an inclusive environment where people can perform at their best.

  • You communicate with impact. You have exceptional presentation, verbal, and written communication skills, along with strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and advanced financial analysis and modeling capabilities.

  • Values matter to you. You bring your real self to work, and you live our values - trust, teamwork, and accountability.
