The Senior BSA Investigator is critical in the process of detecting financial crime activity within Service Credit Union.  This professional possesses an ever expanding and changing technology and investigative tool set to proactively detect fraud, money laundering and other financial crimes.  They possess the ability to operate in multiple alerting, reporting, and investigation systems simultaneously to be able to build and interpret patterns of activity wholistically to detect suspicious activity, whereas a standalone alert or system in itself would not be able to find concern. 

Location: Rochester, NH - Service Credit Union Operations Center

Hybrid: Required 3 days in office, 2 days flexable work from home

Compensation: $26.93 - $30.00 per hour depending on experience and qualifications.

Members are the priority at Service Credit Union, and every role at the credit union is responsible for supporting member solutions and contributing positively to the member experience.” 

They investigate the most complex AML and financial crime activity, communicate with various involved parties internally and externally, and suggest AML program enhancements, while being adept and finding and escalating any data, process, or general issues across the Credit Union to BSA department leadership to review.  They have strong business acumen understanding the transaction patterns and behaviors of a variety of business types. They serve as a source of expertise across the Credit Union on topics such as AML, OFAC, and CIP, possessing an experienced background in the various talent areas of BSA compliance.  They continuously enhance their skillset and talents by staying up to date on AML/Fraud strategies, world events, and financial products. 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Review assigned alerts and reports generated through the credit union’s BSA/AML monitoring platforms exercising the ability to interpret and analyze evolving patterns of behavior representing various types of suspicious activity suggesting money laundering of financial fraud, such as funnel/mule accounts, unlicensed MSBs, terrorism financing, human trafficking, or structured transactions
  • Investigate suspicious activity and prepare Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) and Currency Transaction Reports (CTRs) to file with FinCEN
  • Monitor a real time queue with a team to ensure real time OFAC surveillance is maintained and documented
  • Analyze patterns to detect and disrupt AML and Financial Crimes schemes and conduct research into individuals, businesses, and locations online through a variety of tools.
  • Review consumer and business membership applications to detect fraudulent/suspicious account openings and identify patterns of ongoing suspicious openings and ensure compliance with Customer Identification Processes (CIP) defined by US regulations. 
  • Conduct Customer Due Diligence (CDD) and Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) for high-risk members and communicate via phone and email with members
  • Participate in ongoing education and training within the department to stay ahead of new complex patterns of behavior, government regulation shifts, and continue to evolve investigation effectiveness by utilizing new technology capabilities. 
  • Work collaboratively across multiple lines of business, communicating effectively with internal stakeholders who are involved in supporting AML/BSA programs as well as making member contact during investigations and reviews in a tactful and targeted manner as to determine if suspicious activity may be occurring. 
  • Provide training to members of the BSA team and other teams throughout the Credit Union on AML Compliance issues.  Be able to effectively quality review SARs, and CTRs for accuracy and thoroughness
  • Participate in special projects and meetings designed to enhance monitoring and detection
  • Recommend account closures and restrictions to BSA department leadership for review and monitor follow through on final decisions to close accounts
  • Ensure policies and procedures regarding are accurate and effective, escalating and concerns and improvements to the Bank Secrecy Act Officer
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position

SKILLS AND/OR QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or prior experience in law enforcement or financial crime AML/BSA/Fraud positions required. 
  • Two years’ experience financial and/or banking compliance such as AML, KYC, Fraud, Operations. 
  • Exceptional analytical, investigative, and effective communication skills across phone, email, and messaging platforms. 
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office for data manipulation required and experience with Fraud/AML Compliance monitoring and investigatory tools highly preferred
  • Experience with more complex financial crime investigations and direct interactions with customers/members preferred
