Sr Accountant

The Senior Accountant will support the Accounting team's monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, with a focus on prepaid and accrued expenses, payroll accounting, and construction and fixed asset accounting. This includes, but isn't limited to, reconciling balance sheet accounts, supporting internal and external audits, and serving as the accounting point of contact for a designated group of venues. This position will work cross-functionally to ensure accurate, timely financial reporting, and will help develop and document stronger accounting processes, controls, and use of AI-driven tools.

Key Responsibilities

• Produce accurate, timely financial statements as part of the Accounting team's monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, including the external audit
• Maintain, amortize, and reconcile prepaid expenses, and record accurate accruals through searches for unrecorded liabilities
• Record and reconcile payroll, commission, and bonus accruals, including related reclassing and true-up entries during month-end close
• Prepare monthly construction draws, submit general contractor invoices with GL coding, and resolve liens filed against Topgolf properties
• Serve as the accounting contact for a designated group of venues, supporting audits, and using AI and other tools to create efficiencies in day-to-day accounting work

Financial Reporting & Close Excellence

Delivers accurate, well-supported financial statements and account reconciliations on a consistent monthly, quarterly, and annual cadence.

• Produces accurate, timely financial statements as part of the Accounting team's close process, including the external audit.
• Reconciles balance sheet accounts and intercompany transactions, and researches and analyzes fluctuations versus prior year, prior month, and budget.

Payroll & Balance Sheet Accuracy

Applies close attention to detail to keep payroll-related accounts clean, reconciled, and well-supported.

• Records weekly and bi-weekly payroll, commission, and bonus accruals, and related reclassing and true-up entries during month-end close.
• Reconciles payroll-related balance sheet accounts monthly and manages the escheatment process for payroll and accounts payable checks.

Construction & Fixed Asset Stewardship

Manages the financial side of venue construction with rigor, from funding requests through lien resolution.

• Prepares monthly construction draws, distributes them to REITs, and monitors reimbursement progress.
• Submits general contractor invoices to AP with GL coding, requests funding, obtains lien waivers, and resolves liens filed against Topgolf properties.

Audit, Controls & Systems Judgment

Exercises sound technical judgment to strengthen controls and support a smooth audit cycle.

• Supports quarterly and annual audits, including schedule preparation and fulfilling sample selection requests.
• Develops, documents, and maintains internal accounting controls and procedures, and participates in system implementations as they arise.

Cross-Functional Business Partnership

Builds trust with venues and cross-functional teams as a responsive, reliable accounting resource.

• Serves as the accounting contact for a designated number of venues, including month-end close accruals, analysis, and responses to leadership questions.
• Collaborates with FP&A, operations, and treasury on financial matters, and supports management with special projects and reports.

Process, Systems & AI Innovation

Looks for smarter ways to work, using technology and documentation to raise the bar on efficiency.

• Uses AI and other tools to create efficiencies in day-to-day accounting work.
• Develops, enhances, and documents accounting and finance procedures and data flow.

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field
• 3+ years of accounting experience with a track record of increasing responsibility
• CPA a plus; auditing experience at a public accounting firm is a plus
• Restaurant or multi-unit retail industry experience preferred; experience working with SEC registrants is a plus
• Fixed asset or construction accounting experience is a plus
• Deep understanding of GAAP and the ability to research and apply technical accounting issues to recording and reporting financial results
• Experience with large ERP systems required; SAP a plus
• Advanced understanding of the Microsoft Office suite, including Word and Excel—pivot tables, XLOOKUP, and SUMIF(S) formula knowledge is essential
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships across teams and levels
• Well organized, with the ability to manage multiple simultaneous priorities and projects in a fast-changing environment
• Comfortable working and resolving issues independently, while maintaining confidentiality given the sensitive nature of the data processed
