About the role

Point is seeking an experienced Associate General Counsel to serve as the primary legal partner to the teams that manage Point's home equity investment (HEI) product after origination. This role is focused on the servicing side of the homeowner lifecycle, from onboarding through defaults, exits, and maturity. This role reports to the Deputy General Counsel with direct access to the General Counsel and senior leadership on high-priority matters.

The Associate General Counsel, Servicing & Title will own day-to-day legal counseling for Point's Funding, Post-Closing, Servicing, and Investor Operations teams. Coverage includes servicing communications and disclosures, title and lien perfection questions and claims, contract administration, defaults, and the subservicers and title vendors that Point partners with to execute.

Point has built a substantial regulatory and compliance foundation for the HEI, and this role continues to expand that foundation. Questions will surface that no one has answered before. This is a hands-on role on a small team, and the work rewards a mortgage or consumer finance lawyer who is genuinely interested in how a servicing operation runs and keen to build a durable playbook along the way.

This is a fully remote position with occasional travel required.

Your responsibilities

  • Servicing lifecycle counseling
    • Serve as the primary legal contact for Servicing and homeowner operations across the post-origination lifecycle, from homeowner inquiries through exit administration and maturity.
    • Draft and maintain Point's contract amendments, and own the state-by-state analysis that governs them, including recording and lien priority.
    • Review homeowner communications and notices, and maintain the matrix of applicable state disclosure and notice requirements in coordination with relevant legal and compliance partners.
    • Advise on vesting, transfers, trusts, estates, and capacity questions, and on cure mechanics when a transfer falls outside the agreement.
    • Partner with Product, Engineering, and Design on servicing features and the legal requirements that shape them.
  • Title and lien perfection
    • Advise on title and lien perfection issues, including county rejections, corrective instruments, and state curative requirements.
    • Manage title claims with carriers from tender through resolution, including claim strategy and recovery efforts, and coordinate with the business on exposure.
  • Escalations
    • Partner with Servicing and Point's subservicers on escalations that need a legal read: senior-lienholder proceedings, tax sales, condemnation, and casualty claims.
    • Advise on consumer bankruptcy questions, including proofs of claim and communication during stay periods.
    • Advise on delinquent property taxes, including redemption timelines, per-file risk, and remediation.
  • Outside counsel and investor support
    • Retain and direct outside counsel on title, collateral, and tax-sale matters; define clear scopes of work, critically evaluate advice and work product, and manage deadlines and budgets.
    • Support diligence, investor notice, and consent obligations where servicing or title facts drive the answer.
  • Process, playbooks, and legal technology
    • Build playbooks, templates, and self-service guidance so the business can resolve high-volume servicing questions on its own, and legal time goes to the harder calls.
    • Use AI-assisted workflows for document review, disclosure comparison, and matter triage, with approved tools, output verification, and confidentiality safeguards.

About you

  • J.D. and active bar membership in any U.S. jurisdiction (California preferred); must be eligible for in-house practice in your state of domicile.
  • 7+ years of experience practicing law in mortgage or consumer finance, at a law firm, in-house, or a combination of both, including meaningful, hands-on experience advising on residential mortgage or other real estate-secured consumer finance servicing matters.
  • Demonstrated experience analyzing and resolving title, lien-priority, recording, or lien-perfection issues, with an understanding of title insurance and the ability to work through state-by-state variation.
  • Comfort partnering with a servicing team, subservicers, and outside counsel on proceedings that affect the collateral. Familiarity with foreclosure and enforcement procedure in judicial and non-judicial states, including redemption periods and surplus funds, is an advantage.
  • Working knowledge of the consumer finance and mortgage regulatory framework, including RESPA/Regulation X, TILA/Regulation Z, FDCPA/Regulation F, FCRA, ECOA/Regulation B, TCPA, SCRA, GLBA, UDAAP and state UDAP laws, and state servicing, licensing, and debt collection requirements.
  • The ability to assess how regulatory requirements apply to a novel consumer financial product, and to translate them into operational guidance that the business can follow.
  • Experience retaining and directing outside and local counsel, and managing scope and budget across a multi-matter portfolio.
  • A strong sense of ownership: you advise in plain language, run the question down, and come back with a recommendation rather than handing back the issue.
  • Sound judgment in a fast-moving, regulated environment, and the instinct to recognize when a question needs further analysis, specialist input, or escalation.
  • Preferred experience includes:
    • Default servicing, foreclosure, bankruptcy, or loss mitigation exposure.
    • Title claims experience.
    • Supporting a novel consumer financial product through operational build-out.
    • Building legal playbooks, templates, intake processes, and service levels in a scaling legal function.
    • Leveraging legal AI tools in an in-house environment.
