Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Utility Coordinator, operate and maintain boilers, cooling towers, air compressors, and associated equipment.
Duties/Responsibilities:
· Operate, and monitor natural gas fired pressure boilers, and related equipment.
· Operate, and monitor cooling towers, and related equipment.
· Operate, and monitor air compressors, and related equipment.
· Monitor the performance of utilities equipment, take corrective action, and report problems to supervision.
· Perform preventive maintenance and repair of utility distribution systems and utility equipment.
· Make rounds and completed testing on equipment, note deficiencies, take corrective actions, and complete operator logs.
· Relieve other Plant Operators as needed and assume all duties of that shift.
· Assists in the training of others as needed in all areas.
· Must perform all work in a safe and professional manner.
· Additional duties as assigned
Requirements
Required Skills/Abilities:
· Ability to learn and perform repair tasks on equipment
· Understanding of the basic concepts of cause and effect on equipment in the operating area
· Forklift and/or scissor lift experience
· Basic math such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentage and average calculations
· Excellent mechanical aptitude
· Must be able to work independently, with little supervision
· Ability to work in inclement weather
· Ability to work weekends and holidays as needed
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent; further education and certifications such ISO 9001 and/or 14001 are preferred.
Physical Requirements:
· Physical demands of the position are heavy lifting up to 50 pounds, walking, climbing, and bending flexibility. Must be able to work safely in varying temperature extremes. Safely work off ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and other types of lifts.
· Ability to climb ladders and work up to 40 feet in the air inside confined spaces while wearing PPE
· Wear Personal Protective Equipment in order to work around acid fumes/liquids, sharp objects, and hot equipment
· Ability to work 12 hour shifts
· Ability to stoop and bend to floor level and squat to access and operate valves
· Ability to lift 45 lbs. from ground to above waist level
