Contract: 3 Years

Job Summary

We are seeking an Environmental Specialist I to support environmental, compliance, and operational analytical testing within an Environmental Test Laboratory.

The successful candidate will perform chemical analyses using laboratory instrumentation and approved analytical methods while ensuring compliance with regulatory, customer, and quality-control requirements. The ideal candidate will have a science or engineering background with strong chemistry coursework, laboratory experience, attention to detail, and analytical problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform environmental, compliance, and operational laboratory testing.
  • Conduct chemical analyses using various laboratory instruments and analytical methodologies.
  • Follow approved EPA, ASTM, Standard Methods, and other applicable reference standards.
  • Ensure analytical methods comply with regulatory and customer requirements.
  • Establish, monitor, and evaluate analytical data quality-control requirements.
  • Review sample data and identify potential analytical or quality issues.
  • Troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation and resolve performance issues.
  • Maintain analytical instrument performance and assigned laboratory equipment.
  • Monitor laboratory supplies and inventory associated with assigned methods.
  • Develop and maintain technical Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Prioritize and manage daily laboratory workloads and multiple assignments.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation and analytical records.
  • Communicate effectively with internal teams, customers, and external work groups.
  • Identify unsafe work conditions and support corrective actions.
  • Maintain a strong focus on safety, quality, accuracy, and regulatory compliance.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related science discipline.
  • Minimum of 15 semester hours of chemistry coursework.
  • Knowledge of EPA, ASTM, Standard Methods, and other analytical reference standards.
  • Understanding of laboratory quality-control requirements.
  • Ability to follow technical SOPs and analytical procedures.
  • Ability to evaluate sample data and interpret technical procedures.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments with competing deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a laboratory team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous environmental or analytical laboratory experience.
  • Experience using analytical reference methods and laboratory instrumentation.
  • Experience writing technical laboratory procedures and SOPs.
  • Gas Chromatography (GC) instrumentation experience preferred.
