Your mission
This is a temporary freelance role for the below-mentioned duration. Candidates must have all required documentation, permits and visas in place to legally work in the United Arab Emirates for the duration of the assignment.
Location: Abu Dhabi, UAE
Duration: ASAP - December 2026, with potential extension
Your responsibilities will include:
- Support the implementation and continuous improvement of the project HSE Management System, policies, plans and procedures in line with company, client and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Monitor day-to-day site activities to ensure compliance with established Health, Safety and Environmental standards, procedures and safe working practices.
- Conduct regular site inspections, audits and safety observations, identify potential hazards and recommend appropriate corrective and preventive actions.
- Develop, implement and maintain risk assessments, method statement reviews and Permit-to-Work (PTW) processes for relevant project activities.
- Support HSE requirements throughout project execution, including construction, installation, testing, commissioning and handover activities.
- Coordinate and deliver site inductions, toolbox talks, HSE briefings and training, ensuring appropriate records are maintained.
- Monitor HSE performance and maintain accurate statistics, inspection records, reports, training records, incident documentation and other HSE correspondence.
- Monitor subcontractor activities and HSE performance, ensuring their systems, documentation and working practices comply with project and client requirements.
- Verify that personnel are appropriately trained, competent and authorised for the activities they perform and identify additional training requirements where necessary.
- Support inspections of tools, machinery, lifting equipment, PPE and other site equipment to ensure compliance with applicable HSE requirements.
- Support the planning and execution of emergency preparedness activities and drills and follow up on identified actions.
- Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, identify root causes and support the implementation and monitoring of corrective and preventive measures.
- Participate in and, where required, lead HSE meetings with project teams, subcontractors, site management and client representatives.
- Provide practical HSE advice and guidance to project and site teams and proactively escalate significant risks or non-compliance.
- Liaise with the client, contractors, subcontractors and other project stakeholders to ensure effective coordination of HSE activities.
- Promote a strong safety culture across the project and encourage proactive identification and reporting of hazards and unsafe conditions.
Your profile
- Recognised HSE qualification such as NEBOSH, IOSH, CSP or equivalent.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant HSE experience, preferably in the area ofconstruction and/or events or similarly complex project environments.
- Strong working knowledge of UAE HSE legislation and requirements, as well as international HSE standards and industry best practices.
- Practical experience with HSE management systems, including ISO 45001 and ISO 14001; knowledge of ISO 50001 would be an advantage.
- Strong experience with risk assessments, Permit-to-Work systems, site inspections, audits, toolbox talks, incident investigations and corrective action management.
- Experience managing and monitoring contractor and subcontractor HSE compliance on active project sites.
- Ability to identify hazards and risks and translate HSE requirements into practical site-level actions and controls.
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Management, Engineering or a related discipline is preferred.
- Strong reporting and documentation skills with the ability to maintain accurate HSE records and performance statistics.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the confidence to communicate effectively with site teams, management, clients and subcontractors.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams.
- Proactive, organised and hands-on approach with the ability to work independently and take ownership of HSE matters on site.
- Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, project-based environment.
- Available to work onsite in Abu Dhabi for the full project duration.
