Description

Shape the Future of Institutional Banking's Lending Portfolio.

Balance Sheet Performance & Capital Allocation (BSPCA) is a newly established team responsible for helping optimise the performance of IB&M's lending portfolio. Working across Coverage, Product, Risk, Treasury, Finance and Portfolio Management, the team provides the insights, analysis and recommendations that support better portfolio decisions, stronger pricing discipline and more efficient capital allocation.

As we continue to build this high-profile capability, we're looking for an exceptional, commercially minded Associate Director to join a small, high-performing team and play a critical role in shaping its future. This is a rare opportunity to step into a strategically important position where your work will influence portfolio performance, capital deployment and senior management decision-making across the institutional banking franchise.

The Opportunity

You’ll combine deep analytical capability with commercial judgement to support the active management and optimisation of the lending portfolio. You'll work across large and complex datasets, develop insights and recommendations for senior stakeholders, and support decisions relating to capital allocation across sectors, clients and products. This is not a purely technical analytics role. Success requires the ability to translate complex portfolio and financial data into practical business insights, influence stakeholders, and support strategic decision-making.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Analyse portfolio performance, pricing, returns, capital and balance sheet metrics.

  • Extract, manipulate and interpret large, complex datasets from multiple sources.

  • Monitor portfolio and deal performance, identifying trends, risks and opportunities.

  • Develop management commentary and insights to support portfolio reviews and executive decision-making.

  • Prepare high-quality reports, executive presentations and management papers.

  • Support governance and management review processes relating to portfolio performance and balance sheet oversight.

  • Apply critical thinking and commercial judgement to identify what matters and areas requiring management attention.

  • Support reporting enhancements, automation initiatives and process improvements that increase efficiency and analytical capability.

What We're Looking For:

  • Strong data analytics and financial analysis capability, including experience working with large and complex datasets.

  • Institutional banking experience with a strong understanding of lending products, pricing, portfolio management, returns and capital.

  • Strong understanding of financial and accounting concepts and reporting.

  • Advanced Excel skills and the ability to validate, reconcile and interpret financial information.

  • Ability to bridge technical analysis and commercial decision-making, translating complex data into clear insights and practical recommendations.

  • Strong commercial acumen, stakeholder management capability and the ability to influence decisions through data-driven insights.

  • Excellent PowerPoint, written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare high-quality management reporting, executive presentations and management papers.

  • High attention to detail, intellectual curiosity and the ability to independently solve complex problems in ambiguous environments.

This is an opportunity to make a genuine impact while working at the intersection of data, portfolio management and commercial decision-making. If you enjoy solving complex problems, challenging assumptions and helping drive better business outcomes, we'd love to hear from you.

If you're already part of the Commonwealth Bank Group (including Bankwest, x15ventures), you'll need to apply through Sidekick to submit a valid application. We’re keen to support you with the next step in your career.
