About the role:
The Area Operations Manager is responsible for managing, implementing, planning, organising and improving operational outputs across a defined geographic area. The role defines priorities, develops practical operational plans, evaluates performance, interprets trends, produces reports and provides guidance to direct and indirect reports to ensure divisional targets are achieved. The role also resolves operational challenges and drives continuous improvement across assets, costs, productivity, service delivery, compliance and workforce performance.
What you'll do:
Manage and evaluate the key performance outputs and targets of Operations Team Leads and direct reports across different geographic areas, and implement corrective or remedial actions where required.
Plan weekly resource requirements, organise contractor allocation and evaluate contractor suitability against agreed role, culture, customer service and safety criteria; resolve gaps by rejecting unsuitable contractors and providing feedback to CMC.
Define, implement and report on compliance standards related to policies, practices, assets and allowances by conducting monthly audits, interpreting trends, identifying possible abuse and resolving issues through corrective action.
Produce and report reconciliations on asset, branding and uniform details in line with contracted driver requirements.
Provide area visibility and leadership presence to improve operational standards and lead by example.
Develop and provide clear communication to ensure Operations Team Leads and contracted drivers understand how their roles contribute to the success of the operation.
Manage local stakeholder relationships, interpret local trends and delivery challenges, and report insights to the business to improve service delivery.
Evaluate driver network health, define improvement priorities and resolve issues timeously by proposing solutions that improve the competitive advantage of the business.
Plan and organise resourcing across all areas of responsibility, define vacancy priorities and ensure roles are filled timeously to support operational requirements and business continuity.
Develop, implement and evaluate training and development plans; provide coaching, mentoring and guidance to direct and indirect reports and report on monthly progress.
Report on risk-related matters, interpret operational risks, involve risk teams where required and implement mitigation and conflict resolution practices to resolve issues and complaints.
Provide input to the Regional Operations Manager and implement continuous improvement initiatives across the area.
Define area-specific budget requirements for the planning cycle, provide input to the Regional Manager, and report on costs, variances and corrective actions.
What you'll bring:
Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in BCommerce or a related field - (essential).
+4 year’s experience in retail operations management, preferably in an on-demand service delivery industry - (essential).
Membership to industry related business forums e.g Sapics - (preferred).
Proficiency in MS Office (Advanced Excel skills) and other business-related software - (essential).
Knowledge of the logistics industry, project and risk management - (essential).
