Director Private Market Operations

About the Role

As Director of Private Markets Operations, you will lead the execution and ongoing management of Opto's private market offerings and drive the next phase of the team's growth. You will own the operational workflows that underpin fund activity, investor onboarding, and capital events — ensuring accuracy, consistency, and a high-quality experience for clients and investors — while designing the processes, systems, and controls that let those workflows scale.

This is a senior contributor role with a path into management, reporting to the Head of Private Market Operations. It is built for a structured planner: someone who brings order to complexity, runs work off a plan rather than a fire drill, and contributes well beyond their own lane — partnering across Product, Engineering, Legal, Compliance, and the Commercial team to move the whole organization forward. In the near term, you will be in the work; over time, you will provide direction and mentorship to the team and grow into managing within the Private Market Operations function as the business scales.

Your day-to-day will include:

Private Markets Execution & Capital Activity

• Own the full day-to-day execution of private market activity across the funds — and the combined lifecycle of funds and investors from launch through wind-down
• Coordinate subscription, capital call, and distribution activity with the administrator, reviewing calculations, notices, and investor records for accuracy
•  Manage subscription documentation, investor records, and compliance-related workflows; monitor and reconcile investments, following up with General Partners and managers for missing or more detailed information
•  Oversee fund administrators, custodians, and other third-party providers, holding them to the quality and turnaround standards our clients expect
•  Handle the most complex or high-stakes operational situations directly

Fund Launches & Operating Model Design

•  Lead the operational workstream for new fund launches — building the operating model for each new vehicle, structure, or strategy from term sheet through go-live, and developing playbooks so each launch is more repeatable than the last
•  Review investment and fund documents (LPAs, PPMs, subscription documents, side letters, and administrator agreements) to translate terms into operational requirements, workflows, and controls
• Design, document, and evolve operating processes, SOPs, and service level agreements to support growth and increasing complexity
•   Define and track the Key Performance Indicators that show whether workflows are properly managed, and fix bottlenecks before they become crises

Client Service & Enterprise Engagements

• Set the standard for day-to-day operational support to clients and investors — leading onboarding, implementation, and ongoing servicing across private market products
• Deliver post-trade confirmations, capital activity reporting, and operational communications
• Lead the operational side of enterprise client engagements: onboarding and implementation for our largest RIA relationships, including custom workflows, reporting requirements, and integration needs
• Partner with the Commercial team on client delivery and issue resolution, serving as the senior operational escalation point

Cross-Functional Projects, Technology & Team Growth

• Project-manage complex, cross-functional initiatives end-to-end — scoping requirements, building timelines, coordinating stakeholders across the organization, and driving delivery through launch
•  Partner with the Product and Engineering teams to design scalable workflows: defining operational requirements, identifying automation and control enhancements, and leading operational input into technical implementations
• Manage vendor and provider projects (conversions, new integrations, service transitions) with clear plans, owners, and accountability
• Provide training, guidance, and mentorship to analysts on the team — and as the business scales, partner with the Head of Private Market Operations to take on hiring and management responsibility

About You

Opto Investments is seeking an ambitious, experienced operator with a “can-do” attitude to lead the Private Market Operations team's next chapter. You are a structured planner — you break ambiguous problems into workstreams, sequence them, and keep multiple stakeholders informed and aligned — and you contribute across the organization, not just within your function. You have a proven record of navigating unstructured operational processes while handling multiple workstreams, and you're ready to move from executing the work to owning how the work gets done, with a path into managing the team that does it.

Required Skills

• Deep, hands-on expertise across the private fund and investor lifecycle: onboarding, subscriptions, capital calls, distributions, and ongoing servicing
•  Ability to interpret fund documents (LPAs, PPMs, subscription documents, side letters) and translate their terms into operational workflows and controls, including experience supporting new fund launches
•  Strong project management skills — you can scope, plan, and drive complex cross-functional initiatives to completion with multiple stakeholders and hard deadlines
•  Experience designing, documenting, and improving operational processes, and working with fund administrators, custodians, and other third-party providers — you've built things, not just run them
• Exceptional organization and attention to detail: deliverables consistently meet the highest standard of quality and accuracy in a daily, deadline-driven environment
• Excellent verbal and written communication — you keep stakeholders well-informed and can navigate difficult conversations with clients, providers, and internal teams
• An inquisitive, investigative mindset and a passion to dive deeper; self-motivated, high emotional intelligence, flexible, and resilient
• Demonstrated leadership potential: mentoring junior team members, leading cross-functional initiatives, or managing a small team

Background

•   7+ years of relevant work experience in financial services or investment operations, with a focus on private markets
•    College or university degree in business, finance, economics, or related field

The successful candidate for this role can expect a generous compensation and benefits package. The cash salary range for this role is $175,000– $200,000 dependent on skills, experience, and expected contribution.
