About the Role

The Specialty Pharmacy Coordinator plays a critical role in supporting the safe, accurate, and timely delivery of specialty medications to patients. Working closely with pharmacists, healthcare providers, insurance companies, and internal teams, you will coordinate prescription processing, patient scheduling, billing, medication dispensing, and delivery logistics while providing exceptional customer service.

What You'll Do

• Process and bill prescriptions using pharmacy management software while ensuring accuracy and compliance.
• Coordinate medication dispensing, shipping, and delivery scheduling to ensure patients receive treatment on time.
• Create and maintain patient records and documentation within pharmacy systems.
• Manage appointment schedules, clinic calendars, and medication delivery timelines.
• Liaise with insurance providers, physicians, and healthcare teams to obtain coverage approvals and resolve reimbursement issues.
• Investigate and resolve third-party billing issues for specialty and high-cost medications.
• Conduct follow-up calls with patients regarding outstanding accounts and administrative matters.
• Maintain inventory records and support inventory reconciliation activities.
• Ensure adherence to pharmacy regulations, company policies, and standard operating procedures.
• Build strong working relationships with healthcare professionals, reimbursement coordinators, infusion coordinators, and payers.
• Accurately complete data entry and documentation related to prescription processing and patient services.
• Deliver exceptional customer service to patients and healthcare partners through phone and email interactions.

Basic Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 3+ years of pharmacy experience in a retail, specialty, or healthcare setting.
• Experience processing prescriptions and working with pharmacy software.
• Experience coordinating insurance coverage or third-party billing activities.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Skills & Experience

• Experience in specialty pharmacy.
• Knowledge of Trillium and provincial drug reimbursement programs.
• Familiarity with private and public drug insurance plans.
• Experience handling high-cost specialty medications.
• Knowledge of medication dispensing workflows and pharmacy operations.
• Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across multiple teams and stakeholders.
• Experience supporting inventory management and reconciliation processes.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• On-site position.
• Requires extended periods of computer work and data entry.
• Frequent communication via phone and email with patients, healthcare providers, insurance companies, and internal teams.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a dynamic healthcare environment.

The pay range shown below is aligned with McKesson's pay philosophy, and pay will always be compliant with any applicable regulations. Our Base Pay Range for this position

$50,000 - $66,600
