Preferences:
3 - 5 years of experience providing counseling/advising services to a federal TRIO Talent Search program.
The Education Advisor will report directly to the Associate Director of UM-Talent Search. The Education Advisor is responsible for advising and assisting with college admissions, financial aid, and other college readiness activities. The position will involve outreach and recruitment in the target community, as well as public relations and marketing to the target audience. Data entry and management will also be required.
Responsibilities
(50%) The Education Advisor will provide academic and career planning advising on an individual and group basis to Talent Search participants (low-income and first-generation high school students) in Prince George's County Public Schools.
- Assist in coordinating and organizing college readiness activities.
- Provide academic advising on college preparation and readiness, including admission and financial aid processes.
- Provide student development support based on Student Development Theory.
- Serve as a role model and mentor for students served by Academic Achievement Programs.
(20%) In concert with the Associate Director, the Education Advisor will coordinate outreach, public relations, recruitment, and selection of Talent Search participants.
(15%) Facilitate workshops and seminars for Talent Search students.
(15%) The Education Advisor will assist in the development and implementation of a database system for tracking student progress and entering data in the program's database.
- Develop and administer needs assessment and evaluation forms.
- Serve as a student advocate and liaison.
- Participate in outreach activities and student cultural and educational group events on campus and in the community.
- Perform other responsibilities as delegated by the Director and/or Program Director.

Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Two (2) years of experience providing counseling or advising services.
Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education.

Knowledge of best practices in advising and counseling.
Knowledge of career and cultural options available to students.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products.
