Principal Chemical Engineering Technician

Position Summary

The Principal Chemical Engineering Technician is responsible for setting up meaningful experiments at the materials/component level and then analyzing data arising out of the tests. This technician must be able to quickly set up testing station/prototype fabrication, assembly, debugging, testing and troubleshooting of electro-chemical components of fuel cell systems.  This role requires a high level of mechanical aptitude and teamwork skills.  This position also requires close interaction with the engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure any issues get communicated and resolved in a timely manner.  The ideal candidate should have extensive knowledge in material characterization techniques and design of experiment protocols.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

• Fabricate test station and rapid prototypes for simple analytical testing
• Assemble and troubleshoot electro-mechanical/chemical systems
• Debug and troubleshoot electrical and mechanical systems
• Operate ovens, hoods and glove boxes
• Operate SEM, FTIR, IR and other analytical tools
• Construct and operate test stations used to test chemical solutions
• Communicate consistently and effectively to all cross-functional team members including the systems and manufacturing teams where needed to ensure improvements and changes are understood, and questions are answered to move projects forward
• Represent Plug Power in a professional manner in all interactions; support the philosophy of the organization to provide high-performing technology to maximize customer satisfaction
• Performs other related duties as assigned

Education and Experience
 

• High school diploma or equivalent; associates degree in a technical field or military certification is preferred.
• 15+ years of related work experience
• Ability to read mechanical part drawings is preferred
• Experience operating electrochemical systems like Batteries and/or fuel cells is preferred
• Working knowledge of data collection and statistics/design of experiments a plus
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Demonstrated analytical abilities with strong attention to detail
• Dynamic interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with diverse audiences and stakeholders at all levels
• Ability to role model high standards of professionalism
• Excellent follow-through
• Must be driven and self-motivated
• Must possess the highest ethical standards and a commitment to work quality

Pay Rate:

$32.50 - $47.50
