Senior Project Engineer
Our division delivers innovative products, solutions, and services that enhance productivity, quality, and workplace ergonomics. As a pioneer and global leader in industrial robotics, ABB Robotics operates in more than 50 countries worldwide, supporting customers across a wide range of industries.
The Global Solutions Center Logistics is located in Huizingen, Belgium and specializes in automation solutions for intralogistics, e-commerce, retail, fresh food, non-food and express parcel segments. Our portfolio ranges from robotic products to modular cells, engineered turnkey solutions and lifecycle management services.
To support the design and realization of these complex automation systems, we are looking for an Electrical Engineer. In this role, you will take ownership of turnkey and customized projects, with a strong focus on electrical design, wiring concepts, and the integration of control systems such as PLCs, robotic controllers, SCADA applications, and higher-level management systems. You
will work with a high degree of autonomy while collaborating closely with multidisciplinary project teams to deliver reliable, high-performance solutions for our customers.
Tasks
Enrich controller IO lists provided by Controls Engineers with detailed electrical
information, including power consumption, addressing, interfaces, etc.
Analyse technical requirements and select the most appropriate electrical components and materials;
Develop the electrical architecture by grouping field devices into local junction boxes and/or terminal boxes; draft electrical layouts using AutoCAD;
Define and optimize cable tray routing throughout the installation;
Perform power calculations and cable sizing using Caneco BT;
Design, review, and maintain electrical schematics using EPLAN;
Define electrical panel specifications and prepare requests for quotation for panel manufacturing;
Coordinate and place orders for all required electrical materials, such as sensors, cables, cable trays, supports, and accessories;
Design the electrical safety architecture in compliance with the European Machinery Directive and applicable harmonized standards;
Program safety controllers (e.g. SICK FlexiSoft, Pilz PNOZmulti) and prepare, execute, and document safety validation tests together with Controls Engineers; Select pneumatic valves and valve terminals, and develop compressed air schematics using Festo FluidDraw;
Follow up and support in-house and on-site cabling, installation, and testing activities, ensuring quality, safety, and compliance.
Profile
Engineering degree in Electromechanics, Electronics, Automation, or equivalent experience;
For junior candidates: strong motivation to follow an Electrical Engineering training program within our internal Training Academy;
experience with AutoCAD and EPLAN is an asset;
Solution-oriented mindset with a hands-on and pragmatic approach;
Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and technical quality;
Organized and structured working style, able to manage multiple activities in parallel;
Ability to coordinate, lead, and motivate project teams, including subcontractors;
Proficient in MS Office, particularly Excel and Word;
Willing to work on-site in Belgium and abroad when required;
Genuine interest in robotics and industrial automation;
Fluent in Dutch and English (spoken and written);
Holder of a Category B driving license;
