The role is part of the broader potash Process Engineering Team and will collaborate with other potash sites. Occasional travel to other Mosaic potash operations may be required to support alignment, knowledge sharing, and capability development.
Are you our next Superintendent, Process Engineering and Process Control?
The Superintendent, Process Engineering and Process Control is part of the central potash Process Engineering Team and is responsible for leading process engineering and process control activities at the Colonsay potash operation.
This role provides technical leadership and daily support to optimize plant performance across the milling operation, including both wet and dry processing areas. The role combines strong process engineering capability with applied process control expertise to support the development, implementation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of both process systems and basic and advanced regulatory controls.
The Superintendent will work alongside process engineers, automation coordinators and specialists, operations leadership, and site instrumentation personnel to ensure optimal performance of plant processes and control systems. This role also supports broader potash initiatives and collaborates with other Mosaic potash sites to ensure alignment, knowledge sharing, and development of best practices across the business.
Process Engineering
- Lead and develop a team of process engineers supporting the Colonsay milling operation through coaching, mentoring, and technical guidance
- Lead and support technical troubleshooting and day-to-day engineering support for milling operations, eliminating barriers to achieving production targets
- Oversee and participate in process improvement initiatives including debottlenecking, capacity increases, product quality improvements, and cost reduction opportunities
- Support capital projects through scoping, design input, commissioning, and post-startup optimization
- Support performance monitoring and operational excellence through KPI review, process data analysis, and continuous improvement practices
- Develop short and long-term improvement plans that enhance safety, reliability, production, product quality, and cost performance
Process Control
- Provide technical oversight and strategic direction for process control systems, including PLC, DCS, and HMI/SCADA applications
- Identify, prioritize, and support automation and process control initiatives that improve operational performance and deliver measurable business value
- Support development of process control capability within the engineering team and act as a key stakeholder in alarm management and process control standardization initiatives
Leadership and Integration
- Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and technical teams to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant performance
- Support development of engineering capability across the potash business through education, knowledge sharing, standardization, and collaboration with the broader Potash Process Engineering Team
Education:
- B.Sc./B.Eng. or M.Sc./M.Eng. degree in Chemical, Industrial Systems Engineering, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
Knowledge & Experience:
- 8+ years of experience in process engineering in an industrial environment, ideally including mineral processing, mining, or other heavy industrial operations
- Demonstrated experience leading technical teams or engineering functions in an operational environment
- Registered as a P.Eng. with APEGS or able to become registered with APEGS
- Strong understanding of process engineering fundamentals, including process optimization, troubleshooting, and unit operation performance
- Experience supporting plant operations and executing process improvement initiatives
- Experience supporting capital projects, including design, commissioning, and optimization
- Familiarity with process control systems and control strategy development in industrial operations
- Familiarity with Distributed Control Systems, particularly Emerson DeltaV, considered an asset
- Familiarity with OSI Soft PI data historian including PI Vision and Asset Framework considered an asset
- Understanding of statistical process control and data analysis considered an asset
