The Mass General Brigham Development Office represents a team of 450+ vibrant, collaborative, skilled fundraising professionals. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Manage a 4 to 6-person team; identify, develop, and retain the next generation of leaders within the department:
o Develop timely and tailored performance reviews for direct reports.
o Maintain up-to-date job descriptions and recruit new staff.
o Provide mentoring, coaching, and career advice to staff, as appropriate.
o Serve as an ardent and visible advocate for the team and as a key partner in fundraising efforts, building strong relationships with Development and hospital colleagues.
• Lead MGB system-wide integration efforts for programs under management, including creating new naming and funding levels, along with the associated policies, processes, procedures, guiding principles, and reporting needs; educate Development colleagues on new processes to ensure efficient workflow across the board.
• Oversee the Associate and Assistant Directors in their responsibilities to manage the comprehensive inventory of naming and funding opportunities across the MGB system including signage installations; advise Philanthropic Relations teams; identify, define, and categorize legacy and new capital opportunity opportunities, including working closely with leadership on pricing approvals; work closely with the campus Facilities and Real Estate teams on matters relating to capital projects, donor-named space renovations and relocations, and signage.
• Strategically partner with frontline staff regarding Ragon Building and Cancer Institute capital naming opportunities – manage a comprehensive menu of opportunities and resources; oversee data maintenance of Ragon Building spaces in Giftmap.
• Manage the inventory and development of programmatic naming opportunities across the MGB system, working closely with frontline staff and hospital administrators as needed.
• Oversee the Associate Director in their responsibility to manage all components of endowed named positions, including chairs, professorships, scholars, etc.; partner with MGB department administrators and leadership to ensure nomination guidelines and processes are adhered to; and their role as the liaison with Harvard Medical School.
• Collaborate with the Development Events staff on celebrations for new space dedications, endowed chairs, HMS professorships, and society events
• Oversee the production, updates, and accuracy of donor recognition signage on campus, as well as a targeted number of donor recognition listings; assist with recognition and announcement plans for donors who make gifts of $10M+; develop strategies for ongoing recognition impacted by integration.
• In consultation with Donor Relations leadership, evaluate policies and procedures to ensure alignment with our strategy and Development Office goals, and identify the need for and operationalize new policies and tools that make our processes more effective and efficient.
• In coordination with Information Systems, ensure that all applicable data is entered into the Atlas CRM database.


 

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required and 8-10 years of donor relations or related experience. In addition, the ideal candidate will possess the following skills, abilities and competencies:

  • Superior people management and project management experience 
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to balance multiple priorities with competing due dates while maintaining a strategic vision for the team’s work 
  • Comprehensive knowledge of donor relations and stewardship principles and practices, understanding of healthcare, and complex healthcare systems
  • Strong commitment to customer service, exceptional quality standards, and adopting best practices and efficiencies
  • A collaborative approach to setting priorities and managing expectations, staying flexible with navigating change, and being open to new ideas 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively, effectively, and politely with diverse audiences and stakeholders 
  • Ability to analyze systems and to identify and propose effective process improvements to stewardship operations 
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills 
  • Strategic thinking, entrepreneurship, intellectual depth and curiosity, and the ability to evaluate problems and demonstrate sound judgment 
  • Familiarity with privacy-related rules and regulations, including HIPAA, and the ability and interest to operate in an environment with strict privacy and confidentiality rules
  • Creative, honest, and considerate, with a high level of energy and enthusiasm
  • Proficient in Blackbaud CRM or experience with other sophisticated relationship management database(s)/CRM
  • Strong command of Microsoft Office applications
