tetūranga | About the role 

Your mahi will be diverse and you will work alongside our team of rangers on varied biodiversity work programmes.

You will be joining a positive and enthusiastic team delivering conservation outcomes across the Buller district.   

Your day-to-day work will be strongly field based, including but not limited to:   

  • trapping and weed control programmes. 

  • threatened species monitoring. 

  • office work to support the role and team.   

  • managing assigned project work 

  • assistingthe wider operations team whenrequired 

  • data entry and analysis  

  • building andmaintainingstrong relationships with stake holders and internal staff.

We are seeking a team player, who is reliable and adaptable with a positive outlook. You will be somebody who enjoys rolling up their sleeves, learning newskillsand getting stuck into practical work to achievethe districts work programme goals. 

If you have the following skills andattributeswe are keen to hear from you: 

  • high personal commitment to Health and Safety 

  • physically fit to work in varied terrain   

  • experience with trapping and/or weeding 

  • good communication skills, both written and verbal

  • organisational and computer skills, with attention to detail 

  • self-motivated person, who canoperatewell in a team environment 

  • a willingness to engage and share information to educate the public. 

Desirable: 

  • practical experience and interest in biodiversity work 

  • current First Aid certificate   

  • competent and comfortable working independently in the outdoors (GPS navigation, off-track route finding)   

  • an understanding of the practicalities and risks associated with backcountry work 

  • experience working around helicopters and operating 4WD vehicles. 

  • experience with species monitoring 

  • atertiary qualification, or equivalent experience and achievements, in conservation/ecology/biology
