Role overview
We require an experienced Structured Cabling Field Engineer to support the PSBA Rationalisation Programme across South and Mid Wales.
The engineer will attend designated programme locations to install, route, terminate, test and document copper and fibre cabling infrastructure. The role will involve working alongside client's Field Engineers, programme personnel and other delivery partners.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities
- Attend exchange and programme sites across South and Mid Wales.
- Install structured cabling infrastructure within operational exchange or technical environments.
- Run and route Cat 6 copper cabling using existing cable trays and containment systems.
- Install pre-terminated fibre-optic cabling between designated equipment and distribution points.
- Terminate Cat 6 cabling into keystone modules, patch panels and associated hardware.
- Dress, secure and label cabling in accordance with BT and programme standards.
- Test installed copper and fibre connections and identify installation faults.
- Work safely at height when accessing existing cable trays and containment.
- Maintain appropriate site housekeeping and comply with health and safety requirements.
- Record completed installations, test results and any site-specific issues.
- Complete installation documentation and obtain the required project sign-off.
- Coordinate activities with client's Field Engineers, programme teams and other project stakeholders.
- Travel between multiple sites according to the programme schedule.
Qualifications
Essential experience and skills
- Demonstrable structured cabling installation experience.
- Experience with Cat 5e, Cat 6 and preferably Cat 6A infrastructure.
- Competent in terminating and testing copper cabling.
- Experience installing and routing pre-terminated fibre-optic cabling.
- Understanding of structured cabling standards, containment and installation practices.
- Experience working in telecommunications exchanges, data centres or similar technical environments.
- Ability to work safely at height and use approved access equipment.
- Ability to complete technical installation and test documentation accurately.
- Able to work independently and as part of a wider project team.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Willingness to travel throughout South and Mid Wales.
Desirable qualifications
- Relevant structured cabling accreditation.
- Working-at-height training.
- ECS or CSCS card, if required for the applicable sites.
- Copper and fibre testing certification or demonstrable equivalent experience.
- Previous experience working within BT exchange environments.
- Relevant security or site-access clearance.
Working arrangements
- Field-based role covering South and Mid Wales.
- Travel between sites will be required.
- Work will normally be scheduled through the programme team.
- Some flexibility may be required to accommodate customer access windows or programme changes.
